I had a bad experience that's kind of kept me away from DoD; On a server with Statsme (I think, shows, when you die, how much damage you took to what location of your body, etc) where I was basically insta-killed by one shot in the left leg by a machine gun for 145 damage. There isn't much more than that that'll discourage me from playing a game.

It is unfortunate that not many people play Rocket Crowbar 2 or Science and Industry, as they are both very entertaining mods.

A Lunixmonster TFC server would be very very cool, especially since I've always found TFC a well balanced and very entertaining experience (The fact that it's technically the first FPS that got me into gaming helps me enjoy it more). Also, I remember that some of us in IRC had the idea of getting a server up for The Specialist. That'd be pretty cool to have a place for all of us to stop talking smack and showing off our 'skills'.

I can, and I do regularly. Usually after a bad game of NS (well, maybe I should say "terrible game of NS", since most games of NS are bad by default), I find a good TFC server for some wholesome, gameplay-balanced fun. You just can't put a good offensive medic down.

If the mod gets completed sometime soon I think it would be neat to try, if not DoD sounds pretty cool. I find TFC to be a tad annoying after a while, but entertaining nonetheless for a while.

And of course, S&I Rocks!

it's a given that no mod will hold our attention as long as NS. but it's nice to have it switch out every so once and a while and go on a gaming frenzy (HLRally, Sven, CS, whatever else we played on that).

i think dod would be great. dod public.

LM had a Science and Industry server a while back. It got taken down since no one played on it... Then we also had the sven server, and that only goes up when hunz is in the mood, as it has its own problems and tends to lag the NS server at times. Then we had the HLRally server briefly, but that got old fast and I think LB wasn't fond of the game. Then we had yon CS server, which sits empty as I type this and probably hasn't been used all day, maybe for a few days.

This is the brief history of the non-ns LM servers that I know of.

Perhaps we should have a poll? Or are there too many mods to list?

Whatever mod the server ends up as, I'd say make it non-passworded.  probably res-slot.  I think that's why the CS server is unused.

As far as mods go, I'm not too particular, mainly because as a dialup player, i don't download mods much.  But here's my 25 cents anyway, kinda in order of preference.

Day of Defeat.  Gotta love cooking off nades.

Half-life.  Unmodded.  Yes, i'm talking plain old Half-life deathmatch.  Freaky, ehh?

The Battlegrounds.  Revolutionary war mod.  As in 1776...  It's got the whole 1 shot and 20 second reload thing goin for it.  Not sure if it's steam supported though, as i think it's dev community died and is now opensource.  Haven't checked it out in a while.
