tabbed browsing, pw remembering, and pop up blocker make firebird/firefox whatever they wanna call it, the browser of choice for me.

i've always thought that using the mouse for most things was eschewed (proper usage?) by most geeks... now you want me to use mouse gestures where i can use the keyboard?!?!?

i CHALLENGE YOUR GEEKLY HONOUR!! BOB SIR!!
You find me a web browser with GOOD keyboard to browser integration, and I'll love you forever. The web is SO mouse oriented. And trying to tab through links until you find the right one is a massive pain. Believe me, I sometimes have to work on computers here with busted mouse ports and no USB or working serial ports. Browsing the web with nothing but keyboard takes an eternity and then some.

It's sad really. All those keys on the keyboard just wasted and totally inactive when you're not typing in a text box.

And you only have to run seven extra things in your task tray to manage it, right?  :p

oh, then you will LOVE firefox
in options turn 'find as you type' on

then you just type the text for a link, like 'off topic' and hit enter ... bewm

hotkeys for find as you type:
esc  == abort
backspace == durr
' == start with links only
/ == start with all text
[enter] == click selected link
the last two are only needed if you have 'find links only' on/off

so, with ff/fb you can cruise the forums with almost no mouse usage

make with teh lurve

oh, MORE stuff i found.
a plugin called ad blocker prevents images matching certain filters from being displayed. haven't seen an ad in days now (unless you count opera which has ads built in)

Oh ya, I've got the text find stuff in Mozilla too. I was hoping for some more stuff than that. I really can't think of what, but even with the auto-text-find stuff, there's still a lot of keyboard doing nothing.

Note that one could block opera's adservers from the hostfile if one really wanted to.

note that one doesn't even have to do that in the first place if they're using firefox instead of opera ^~

Note that every single other thing that BlackMage has mentioned as an advantage of Firefox is also built into Opera, so I thought I would qualch his whining about the ads.

Yeah, my mozilla blocks ads for me. <3 Right click ad, block images from this server. Done! I hardly see anything on most major sites anymore.

Yeah... I mostly only use the mouse to click on hyperlinks or highlighting text. Everything else I do through keyboard shortcuts.

It's really disturbing when you're telling your GUI-oriented user friend to Cut and Paste some text off a website and then watch them use the Edit menu.
