General / Is This Spawncamping?

Earlier, I was on LM, map was ns_bast.  I was a marine, I didn't know which hive the aliens had and I happened to wander through engine hive with a teammate and discovered that it was their hive.  We were then told to kill the RT, so I checked to see if any aliens were dead/spawning (they were not at that time) and jumped down and merrily knifed away.

Inevitably, an alien or two died and spawned in.  My teammate (I'm not sure what he was doing or what his name was) and I would stop what we were doing and defend ourselves, then go back to knifing the RT.  I think we killed 3 or 4 skulks max before we died, and the RT was low enough that I then was able to run back from MS and kill it with less than one LMG clip.  One of the aliens, a reserve slotter, told me that this was spawncamping by the new rules, so I popped in to read them.

Now, the rules say that if you're unable to kill the structure fast enough then you should get out.  My question is, what is the limit at which it's simply not fast enough?  Is 3 skulks unacceptable, or 4?  This is a very gray area, I'd just like to see it cleared up.  I've always been willing to abide by the rules, but I have to know what to abide by first.

Bring Lerk spikes back
The alien team currently lacks any good long-range weapon.  They have spit and acid rocket.  Spit is on an alien not designed for fighting, and has a slow RoF/minimal damage.  Acid rocket isn't available until the third hive, and it is not very effective.  For the fade to use acid rocket, it has no ability to blick away, as all its energy is used for 3 acid rockets.

i disagree with aliens needing more / better ranged weapons. what defines natural selection to me is that marines = ranged, aliens = melee. to me both should dominate their area of expertise, if i wanted ranged vs. ranged, i'd play.... ANY other fps.

Tell you what - replace the shotgun with an assault rifle of some kind, and we'll call it a deal.  Until then, the marines are still the masters of both long and short range combat.

Off Topic / Van Helsing

I personally would give Van Helsing a "meh" on a scale from one to awesome.  I just found the whole thing a bit too silly for my tastes.  The action was there, and it was pretty good, but the story kind of got in the way.  I'd prefer that they just either go all-out mindless action or go all-out freaky plot, but not try and mix elements from both.

Also, if anyone knows the command for getting quickswitch to work in NS, i'd like to know ^_^;;
What kind of quickswitch are you talking about?  hud_fastswitch 1 style?  Or is there some other, more devious kind of quickswitch I don't know about?

Yeah, but it would be kind of stupid if the lerk wouldn't do that, since then the silence upgrade would be completely useless with the lerk.
No way, silence is so disturbing with the lerk.  There's nothing creepier than seeing something come rocketing around the corner and silently eat one of your teammates, and then disappear as quickly as it came.  Even if it wasn't constantly growling and hissing silence would still be way cool.

Well, I don't usually make "Hello" posts, but seeing as there's a ready made thread for the purpose...  Hi.

Some of you may recognize me from the server or from IRC, I've been hanging out pretty regularly.  I've been playing NS since release, and been on the NS forums for over a year, only just now got around to finding a community to hang out with really.
