We need to have categories, and sub-categories.

General / Ns 3.0 Beta To Be Released
« on: January 23, 2004, 08:10:47 PM »
Quote
We have made great progress on 3.0, and are close to release. Many people thought that when we announced we were releasing "this holiday season", that mean before New Year's Eve. We apologize if that was misleading. We take our release dates very seriously and don't want to mislead people. It's been changed to "this winter", to avoid any more confusion. We had a January release in mind, and we hope to be able to stick to that...

In order to facilitate communication with the community, we've set up a few NS mailing lists. We have one for mappers to learn about late-breaking news and get their questions answered, one for file mirrors, and (soon) one to keep up to date with community events. These lists will soon be integrated more directly with the site and the forums, but they are functional now. Click the "mailing lists" link above to join. Of course, we will never ever spam you or give out your information to anyone. The lists are just getting going, but they're functional, so go sign up for any you are interested in.

After many months of productive playtesting and balance work with around 2000 Constellation members and Veterans, we feel like we are ready for the next step. We just can't get the kind of balance and compatibility testing we need by running all the playtest servers ourselves, and we want to give back to the ever-patient greater NS community. So instead of waiting until v3.0 is totally complete before release, we're going to release the beta to the public. We don't have the exact date yet, but we expect that the v3.0g beta is the build we're going to release to everyone, just as soon as we get everything in order.

The NS dev team wants to personally thank everyone that helped test, and especially to the Constellation members that have donated to further NS development. If you see any Constellation members on a server, be sure to thank them for their contributions. Without their contributions, you probably wouldn't even be playing v2.01 right now...

I, for one, welcome this release, but it might annoy some consties: "OMG I PAID $5.00 TO GET TEH ICON AND DIS IS HOW DEY REPAY ME"

Discuss.

General / Don't Comm Like This

It's a mighty waste of 50 res + whatever you electrify. Keeping the aliens off the nodes while pressuring the hive with highly upgraded marines is so much more effective then playing defensive and having marines with level 0 armor dieing all over the map.

No, No, No.

If you would kindly note why we have a electrification option in the first place and the aliens don't have any such counter part: Hive sight.

Whenever a rambo marine goes out knifing nodes, everyone knows about it, but when that lone skulk starts chomping on that resnode, only the commander (and sometimes even he doesn't know because the stupid warning didn't sound) knows.

Its actually more effective to have a lone skulk to chomp on the resnode while the others defend the pressuring hive, because in most cases a single skulk won't make a large difference.

And i'm not telling the WHOLE team to go chomp down res nodes, i'm telling ONE skulk to do it.

If you lose the hive, you lose the hive, but when the res nodes are 2 vs 5 (marine start + hive res), that hive will be easily taken back.

30 res electricity is a very large investment, but more often than not, its worth it.

anyways about the real topic of this,
its true that its better to have no comm than to have a comm that puts down stuff then gets out.

Different comms have different strategies and those strategies needs res.  I can tell if a game is over if we're 1 minute into the game and we have single digit res with 1 res node.

General / Leaving Servers At The End Of The Game...

i don't see why they complain it could be one of three reasons:

1.  You have this problem, and if you don't 'retry' your HL will crash

2.  You want to get a headstart on the next game (Say, if you were to comm)

3.  You really are quitting because you just played with a bunch of noobs and don't fancy another fustrating game

each are legal, and don't have a basis in complaint

Niteowl, that is some silly American manga, as it is not backwards.
Though i didn't read it, i figured as much from the look of the site.

For those who don't know, while english comics are read left to right, japanese manga is read right to left

I'm extremely fustrated.

Countless times i have lost several outposts/games/etc. due to lack of groups.

Instance 1:
That hive should've gone down, and it would have if i didn't have to go to base, find the obs, click it with all the crap around it, and THEN press a to scan and seige.

Instance 2:
<Crack> Omg, Lito, why arn't I squad 5?
<Lito> Steam is stupid and doesn't like remapped keys, so i can't make groups.
<Crack> LIES! U h8 me!
<Lito> omg nuu~!
<Crack> </3

Instance 3:
<@gentorange> (TEAM SAY) Uhh, comm, i'm not respawning
<Lito> (TEAM SAY) What in holy hell are yo- OH FOR THE LOVE OF GOD! PHASE BACK! PHASE BACK!
<Lito> I didn't hear a base-attack warning, wtf...
<Lightning Blue & Crack as Onos> gg nublets

Instance 4:
<crack> God damnit, comm, i asked for a medpack like 5 minutes ago
<Lito> oh...i don't see an indication
<crack> OMG! NUB COMM! EJEKT

Instance 5:
<Lito> okay, Holy_Devil, you stay at that hive *set waypoint*, everyone else move into double res *clicks the select all marines button at the top and sets double res waypoint*
<Lito> gj guys gj...wtf...Holy_Devil, wtf are you doing in double?
<Holy_Devil> You set my waypoint here
<Lito> gg, phase is down at the last hive
*crack killed Lito with divinewind

Instance 6:
<Lito> I got something chewing on base res, hold on.  *sets waypoint outside Biodome, sets down phase and turret factory*, Oh and, before i get out, i need one person to get over here *sets waypoint to computer lab*
*Lito killed crack with knife
<Lito> Alright, i'm ba- wth...why isn't anything built at bio?
**Soldiers need Order
*click
<Lito> ...Why are you all at computer lab? ._.

Instance 7:
<Lito> Alright, the tf is electrifying, move out; get me res.
**a few resnodes later
<Lito> Where the heck are all my marines..
*Tab
*3/8 marines alive...none dead are reenforcing
*looks at base
<Lito> Wtf! i thought i elec'd that tf!
<Crack> rewfls, nub comm
*the command console is under attack

Instance 8:
*Crack killed self
<Lito> HAHA, WHAT A NUB
*The command console is under attack

Instance 9:
*Crack Killed Devnull with devour
*Lito killed crack with knife
*the command console is under attack

Instance 10:
*The command console is under attack

Alright, 8, 9 and 10 don't count, but you get the idea:  being able to create squads helps; </3 crack.

So bear with me when you see "Commander: Lito"
I'll unlazy myself to put in Jefe's configs  ( http://www.lunixmonster.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=304 )
and hopefully, i'll be able to bant crack and die happy

Off Topic / Explain Your Name
« on: January 15, 2004, 11:50:46 AM »
Nothing Special over here;

I was originally Qwerty, the first 5 letters on the keyboard on the top row, but one day, things went horribly wrong:  It was taken for several fourms and gaming sites etc.  So i had to change it.

Its basically a bastardidation of "Liddo-kun" from Love Hina, if anyone's read the manga, or seen the anime (OMG! ANIME! Lito = GEEK ^_^! )

how it became my nick is even mroe pathetic, however.  Spare me your flames, but we were all nublets once.  And I happened to be a nublet that played anime trivia, and a question came up about Love Hina, and it asked for the name of the doll (which was, for those who don't know, "Liddo-kun"), but the answer was screwed up and turned out to be "Lito", and it stuck.

the two most common ways i've heard it pronounced are: "Leet-oh" and "Lie-to"  I accept both, however i prefer "Leet-oh" and not for the most obvious reason (1337-o, get it? :D !)

As to why i exist, abortions-on-demand were illegal back then.
gg.
