As I mentioned in the thread about mice I decided to buy a Microsoft Intellipoint Explorer mouse. I've very pleased with the mouse but I can't install the drivers.

I put the cd in and it say that I can't install these untill I uninstall the current drivers. So, I try to do it through add/remove programs but when I click change/remove programs nothing happens. Then I tried going into the system thinger and removing the drivers from my device manager. I reboot the system and they're still there. I can't manually delete anything called logitech because it's in use.

Anyone think they could help me out?  :help:  :(

I don't know the particular answer but I'm sure someone else will post, it was a smart move asking on the forums, I do it all the time >_<

Try do delete the files that "are in use" with the command prompt. That should take care of them.

boot into safe mode and uninstall them, then they won't be in use.

F8 during boot.

Geez, you love to spam don't you? no wonder your spa--er post count is so high.

Anyways, uninstalling the drivers in safe mode is your best bet.  Its also good for getting rid of pesky virii and such.

this works, but as a side note it might be easier to yoink a ps2 mouse from a friend or parent.  This way you will retain mouse functionality even during removal or install.  It even works in safe mode methinks ;)

hey, nothin wrong with that...win98 pwns 'cept for finding drivers, blue screen of death, and other minor inconveniences that XP and 2k don't have..But 98 is soo much faster.  I'd still be using it if I didn't get my copy of XP from my college for $5.

Pfsh.. go check his post count on the NS boards...

If you have the machine to run XP and you can get it for free, I highly highly recommend it.  You need at least 256 megs of ram, and I'd recommend 1ghz cpu or better... but it really is 10x more stable than 98.  If you keep the box clean, you won't have to reformat for ages, and the uptime is longer than a day.  :)
