Author Topic: Weird Bug (Read 4957 times)

Ive been having a problem lately whenever i run NS. What happens is i'll be playing for a certain amount of time and my game would spontaneously freeze. It also happens when i get kicked for a reserved slot. Its really annoying when this happens in the middle of a great game. If anyone has any idea what im going through, give me a heads up.

newest steam version and ns 3.0 dont work together good.
lots of people have the same problem like you.

mine crashes when i try to quit <_<

i have found steam to freeze when i do the following:

typing "disconnect" in the console
clicking the "disconnect" button after pressing the "~" button
typing "quit" in console
clicking the "quit" button after pressing the "~" button

As a fade blinking into marine start about to get some action
Having some sort of steam error message
being kicked
being kicked by steam from some sort of error.

Alot of these crashes have been recently occuring right after the steam update that allowed people to play network games offline using steam. It's never happened before then

quit, exit, leave, disconnect, retry or drop

Steam crashes. It is inevitable. Nothing you do can avoid it, short of running NS and never trying to leave the game, and never being dropped from the server. It's reminding me a lot of the bugginess of the 2.01 steam beta. Valve will one day be a swear word, not to be spoken in proper company. Grrrr.

omg bob said valve someone shoot him now

anyways yes it crashes for me as well though when i ran a server for myself it quit and didn't have a freeze so i don't know <_<

Steam makes my connection suck even more ass now. At first Steam actually worked, but now it's all downhill, but hopefully the devs' collaboration with the company that will remained unamed will result in NS working better with Steam.

And yes, whenever I type exit in the console Steam freezes. I'll try to discconect first, but it seems that that also causes a problem.

I've found the best way to exit NS is to alt-tab out and use the task manager to kill it - then run resetgamma.exe

Good point. At the moment I'm ctrl-shift-escaping my way out of it whenever it locks (win XP) and ending task on it to get out. Might as well just start doing that anyway instead of messing with actually trying to quit and getting locked up.

every time i type /quit in console, I freeze, have to ctrl-alt-delete and end it

then I have to restart steam, cause it says "this game is currently unavailable"

This problem seems to have corrected itself, I wonder if the new patch steam d/led last update did it.
Anyones problem fix itself?

P.S. I've run into a new NS problem, when i alt+Tab and come into the game again, all the lettering is encrypted and it looks like someone spraypainted all over the walls of the NS map im playing. comments?

Seema the quit command was indeed fixed

However, I cannot alt+tab - NS will just refocus and stay there. I don't quite get what you mean by

...but sometimes my HUD WILL disappear or my mouse won't allow lateral movement unless I either alt+tab again or hit escape.

Nonetheless, it will be fixed eventually

Ok, well to clarify, I AM able to alt+tab. but when I come back in-game, everything that is supposed written (teamlist, all text that appears ingame, etc.) shows up as jibberish.
