I don't have a joystick, nor do I have enough joystick-needy games to warrant the purchase of even a cheap one. If I start to play the game, I'll learn to adjust with mouse and keyboard.
Mechwarrior is every reason in the world to fork out for a Force Feedback Pro. Evidently you've never played Mechwarrior.

I pity you...

Anyway, connection: First of all, you can't be behind a firewall, NAT thinger, whatever. Be open, be free, like a fat man with his fly open.

1) Install Allegiance.

2) Install patch.

3) Grab ASGS. Update ASGS.

4) Reboot.

5) Run ASGS and get an account. Then click the 'UPDATE ASGS' at the bottom of that window. Close. Reopen. Login. It'll then run SOVLogin, and your name will have (1) after it (indicating level of nubcaekness). Then it should connect and run Allegiance. Join a public game, probably the newbie server.

Watch out for vets whoring the newbie server though :(

I adjusted to Mechwarrior just fine with mouse and keyboard, but its not quite my style of game. And even one game isn't enough for me to warrant the purchase of a luxury like the Force Feedback Pro.

I remember trying this game awhile back, alls I can say is it has the worst space physics/controlling I have ever seen in a space game :|, now unless that has been changed I am not touching this game again.

I reveal penis I know psychology.

Physics? Um, what? Unless you think that 'ship inertia' is unrealistic... (When you turn, you have to wait for the ship itself to actually begin flying in that direction because of the inertia from where you were originally traveling)

I gave no details, what I am talking about is the god damn ship would turn so god damn slow but move so damn fast that youd have to just go in big loops last time I played it, and I didn't say it was the most unrealistic, because good != realism, and unrealism != good either :p, alls that I am saying is that it is shat to move in that game.

Just finger your throttle a lot (;)) Like in a normal fighter, flying around at full blast isn't going to be too healthy for turns. Finally, there's this neato feature that if you press 'L' you can freely rotate around while still going the same diretion (a la freelancer), allowing you to make 180 and tighter turns.

I mean hell it's better then those games that allow you to turn on a dime, and dogfighting is nothing more then just strafing past each other taking potshots, instead of one guy getting into tactical position behind the other and lacing his ass.

This game owns me in every way, meaning that all I can do in it is move around and fire my weapon :o.
It's twice as clear as heaven and twice as loud as reason.

:) That's all you'll need to know for now.

When the game starts, get in a scout, load up with probes, and find the warp hole (alephs). Find as many as you can, go through them, and scout out even more. Then when the game advances, get in fighters and stuff, and blow up more crap. Escort the bombers (If they say 'nan', it's like 'weld'. Get a scout, and equip the nanogun thing and shoot the bomber to repair hull damage), and... yeah, not too hard.
