I think the userbase is what kills off the servers fully :p. Knockout one server, lots of people lose connection, all the people attempt to connect to other servers at the same time, and then the servers all get overloaded and crash.

It appears that GameSurge is under a massive network-wide DDoS attack.

They really should get some servers at DDoS-protected datacenters.

I was wondering if it was a possiblity to start a small private network untill such time as, well, gamesurge works again or dies for good. i know that irc stuff is hard to get figured out. but its really hard to get my team organized without irc or what not.

i don't know how to say this, confused, but i've been screaming #lm on irc.zirc.org since the ddos started. (that's #lm as in #lm with two charachters, not #lm as an abbreviation of #lunixmonster)

LM's host, ServerMatrix/ThePlanet, revised their IRC policy not too long ago. They changed it from banning all IRC servers to only banning IRC servers connected to a network. So it is possible to put an IRC server on the LM box.

Of course I don't know how demanding an IRC server is. One would imagine not very. Something to talk to LB about, I guess.

Not too demanding I think, but I dont think running one is a good idea

It's a lot of work, for starters, and most of them are for linux, iirc.
