Well, I know how to play chess, but I don't play it much. I hardly play any type of boardgames anymore. I did love to play checkers for quite awhile. I played it so much that no one could beat me, but that is probably not true since I haven't played it in years. Chess is like the next level of checkers.
It's twice as clear as heaven and twice as loud as reason.

If you ask somebody if they're good at chess, almost everyone will say they're "okay."  I've found it's usually better to ask if someone knows what en passant is ;)

Hmm, never thought about that :D and I can say I know what it is :p

En passant is good way to figure out how good they are.... another is to get them with "fools mate" thats a cracker :)

Actually the moves I thought of do`nt actually turn out to be fools mate this is.....

The one im thinking of is similar but you have the black bishop at C5 and the black queen at  F2....anyone know what that is called?

I always thought that what you describe was a fool's mate as well. You'd have to be playing someone really stupid for them to end up in the position in your picture.

That's usually my tell on whether someone is a good chess player or not, if they move any pawns besides the king's and queen's within the first eight moves or so. It either means they're clueless at how to handle something as simple as the opening, or that they're very very good and about to try something totally wild that will wipe the floor with me. Almost always, sadly, it's the former.

Woot, I know what en passant is, and that mate looks very stupid to me! I'm not a total chessdork! :D

But then again, rules have always been my strong point. Drives people crazy when I clear my throat and go "you know, according to the rules, that move is illegal..."

Bishop to F4. I'm right now learning but I'm getting a hang of it.

I play sicilian, not french !   - we must play soon.

anyways - I got fourth place at that tournament. $120 payout for a five hour event. Very nervewracking though, probably could of won the grand prize had I seen an obvious queen fork.

Queen or rook forking is my only skill.  Other than that I'm horrible.

I like poker.  That way it's never your fault if you lose ^_^

StoneToad and I had a chess game the other day on steam and the outcome was a defeat for me. I managed to kill his 2 fades but one of his skulks morphed back into a fade. It was a close game though, I got his hive very low on hp but he made a good come back.
