Well, I think a good amount of people have already heard about this new MMORPG. It isn't out yet but this new article is really making me think about getting it. The visuals in it are beautiful, and it has no monthly subscription.

Didn't you try the open E3 day? =o

It's not really an MMO but for the cost (ie: free) it's ok I guess.  Don't think it's my thing (too diabloey) but I dunno... people kept telling me it's about the PvP and I guess that aspect was ok.  The graphics certainly are pretty at least =P

edit: by free I mean no monthly costs :)

Nope I didn't try it. If it involved downloading anything, it was out of the question Gem (since I have wonderful 56k).

lol okies.

Well if you liked diablo you'll like this... it's kinda like diablo 3 almost.  It replaces the IRC-style lobbies with towns you can wander about in and splits the world into missions and maps which makes a big improvement over just wandering around in killing fields full of monsters especially with some of the mission things like outrunning an army back to base before it's too late or using a catapult to mush a big group of baddies =o

The combat is extremely diablo but your skills are a bit more flexible and changeable ^^

I have been following GW closly since the E3 thing and planning on getting it since there is no monthly fee, however I have started to realise that it is, in fact, centered around PvP (GvG if you are so inclined), and that is the part of MMORPGs I normally am not interested in. So I dunno if I'm going to be getting it anymore.

It is centered more around PvP, but they probably will do a good job on that aspect. I know I wouldn't get it if it had a monthly fee. And they can always update it with extra things you can do.

@Gem: The article about the undead seems to make it sound like it will also depart heavily from Diablo, since the undead are more magically inclined.

I meant gameplay-wise rather than story-wise silly :p

The coop missions are fun for a bit but we only had like 3 available so I can't really say what it'll be like in the long run.
Seriously though it's not an MMORPG in the usual sense; the 'game' itself is never really played with more than 16-32 players.
If you replaced steam's server list and stuff with 3D chatrooms you could wander about in as your character you'd basically have something a lot like GW as far as structure is concerned

I meant gameplay-wise by saying that the undead would be very spell centered and such. Silly. :p

since its free...and no monthly charge, that gives the developers time to slack on patchs and what not...i doubt it would hold my interest longer then a week

actually the devs make their money off the expansion packs so I doubt they'll be slacking much.  You can play the game without the expansions but obviously you'll want that crimson shard sword of disembowling +33 and a shot at the 'defeat the three headed mongoose' mission so you'll probably buy em =3

No doubt they'll be cheap too and because they want people to invest in the upgrades they'll probably put a lot of effort into them so they can afford food for the next month ^^

Yeah, it is at least worth a try. It probably won't be 50 bucks when it comes out anyway. And if it is, just wait a little while. I probably won't get it right away anyway. I have Half-Life 2 and Metroid Prime 2 to play in November.

Definitely looks like a cool game; graphically, it's more appealing than Lineage 2 or Everquest 2, it has a sort of realism but still maintains it's own art style.

I didn't get the chance to play the open beta due to my old hard drive having been dead at the time, so I can't say anything about the gameplay.

Suck? Hardly. Whichever one wins, the other one is not far behind from what I can see through screenshots. And while I have not seen this game in motion, Lineage2 looked somewhat strange... somehow. Hard to put a finger on what exactly it is.

You know, graphical quality is not measured by "most nudity". In that case, DOA Beach Volley would still be on the top.

lol @ lol (haf). Yes, DOA volleyball would win. After all, it got a mature rating, and it is volleyball.

Lineage 2 does look good, but I think Guild Wars looks better. And do you notice the glow that Guild Wars has in it?

Hard not to notice the glow... ^^;

One word of warning; your char isn't exactly highly customisable.  You'll end up finding your looks are more a case of what you can find than your initial char creation (still... more choice than diablo at least =3 ).

You also pick 2 classes; a primary and secondary.
The warrior/elementalist and elementalist/necromancer were popular choices =o

I have no interest in Diablo 3, sorry.
