I heard from my uncle that if you eat a big "dinner or "snack" or food before you goto sleep, like a good 5-10 minutes you have nightmares.

Ive concluded after 3 nights of trying this, 1 night i can;t remember and the other 2 I actually did have some scary scenes :o

So, could it be true? im going to try it  last time for tonight. Test it out. you never know!!

Doesn't the myth go that the stranger the food you eat the stranger the dreams you will have?

From my experince it is just a wives tale, but there could be a genetic factor.

hmmm -- I've never heard that.

Usually if I eat too close to sleep-time I can't fall asleep (hence why I'm still up NOW - arg!)

My guess would be myth!

The only thing I've heard about eating and sleeping is that if you eat a big meal before sleeping, you go to sleep faster. Other than that, whatever you eat shouldn't really mess with your sleep.

I've heard if you eat acid before going to bed, you're quite likely to have weird dreams.  Maybe it's a myth.

oh bob, you and yer wives tales!!

here's a thought, when you eat before going to sleep, and you happen to have indigestion, your body senses the discomforts and pain from the indigestion, and your mind tries to incorporate that into your dream, hence the nightmares. like, have you ever had a dream where the freaking alarm clock sound is in it... and then you wake up, with the, well, you know :)

I... I havent had a nightmare in years... does that mean i'm special?
They're alwaysbeen good/pleasant dreams... Like the one where I was Master Chief and I had to fight zombies at night by some building, and all I had was my assault rifle and my trusty pistol... except I expended my ammo with the assault rifle and my pistol was melting in my hands... OH GOD IT WAS A NIGHTMARE! O__O

I can hardly ever remember my dreams.

And I thought it was bad to eat before going to bed since it can't digest as well.

EDIT: Fixed mistake.

I've never heard about the dream thing, but rather just that it isnt a good idea to eat before sleeping. The reason being is that it is alot of work to digest things, which means your body cant fully "shut down" and rest correctly. This follows with what grimm said, if you eat alot before-hand you will go to sleep faster, but that is because the blood flow to your digestive organs is increased and the rest of the body slows and recives less energy.

I don't dream very often, but when I do, its like TV and games but at least three times cooler.

Damn my dreams are cool. Although also slightly disturbing in places.

FIX THIS!

FYI: Sleeping on a full stomach can cause gastrointestinal problems later in life (namely acid reflux / heartburn).

i regularly eat at least a lot, if not a meal, late at night before i go to bed(mostly cuz i don't eat a lot during the day what with work and all), maybe my stomach will die in like 20 years or something?
