Digital Camera

My parents have been asking me what kind of stuff I want for Christmas this year, and aside from about 14 music CDs and a couple video games, there wasn't much else I wanted. Then I remembered that I'd really like a digital camera.

So I was wondering if any of you knew of any good quality digital cameras at an affordable price. Just something that I can run around with and take shots of my friends and the scenery and locations that I go to, nothing really major or professional.

Just one piece of advice: Stay away from "digital zoom". That's EXACTLY the same as simply enlarging the image. You can just as easily do that in Photoshop, and probably with better quality too.

Well I would suggest you get a good film camera instead like the Canon EOS Rebel ($239), the qaulity is a whole lot better and you get that kinda grainy blured look with film that no ditigital camera can match. But if you must go the way of digital I suggest Olympus D-390 ($129) it's a farily decent camera with a good price from a trusted company. Or if your looking for somthing a little more fun try the James Bond Stealth Camera, it's super compact and can record clips and hold 300 pictures, it also has a bunch of other great features for only $99!!

I must go against BOZO in this: Film cameras are going out of style except for the top-notch professional stuff, which isn't what Grimm wanted. For the casual photographer, a digicam is just the right thing, it takes pictures with the easyness and you don't have to scan them with your flatbed (if you even have one) to get them in digital form. Not to mention they have the same qualities as polaroid cameras: Pictures on-demand.

Yea, I've learned much from digital cameras and other technologies from TechTV. I had kinda been wondering why there are two different types of zoom, then I found out. Its kind of rediculous to see some cameras that have 100x and up digital zoom.

well in my mind, if it's not Nikon, it's not good. Nikon has a great line of cameras for everyone and they're all really quite nice, i have a coolpix 880, serves me well, they're a solid line of cameras, check'em out

Yeah I agree with lolfighter, if he just wants to take pictures for fun, there is no reason not to just get an average digital camera. I'll talk to my physics teacher tomorrow, since he's into photography. He has taken some really good pictures.

Was kinda in a rush this morning before I left for school, didn't get a chance to look through all the cameras. Pretty cool stuff, glad for the help finding them, good to know there are a number of quality digital cameras at a fairly affordable price.

Went back and looked at the Bond camera, that thing is so cool. Perhaps someday after I get my job and save up some money I'll buy it.

It's good, durable, and easy to move pictures from camera to computer. Good quality, too, and the tiny amount of light you need to take a good picture is ridiculous. I turn the flash off, usually, even in my dorm room, which is pretty dark.

I had a Canon Powershot A70 since June, but i got bored of it.

So yesterday i went to BestBuy and picked up a new Kodak DX6490 Camera/Dock

The total was 678$ but it was a great buy, with 10x optical zoom and dock.

Ask yourself: What do you want to do with a cam and what do you want to take pics of.

If your looking for a Point-and-shoot cam then go with Canon. Right now they have the Canon PS A80 4mp 3x zoom.

and DONT DONT DONT listen to "100x zoom!" Thats all digital zoom, it comes out grainy.

This is what your looking for:
*OPTICAL zoom NOT digital
*Megapixals. Around 3 is good
*Ease of use. This kodak is neat, it has a joystick so you can move around in your 2.2 HUGE LCD.
*Shooting Modes-The more the better: Portrait,Night,Burst(take pic after pic, around 3 pics in sec),Sport ect.
*Ask questions if you buy ina store and check for reviews online, ALWAYS read reviews, i spent months doing reseach on this Kodak.

This cam is hot this holiday, thank god i got their first cam in the new shipment. they were sold out at Ritzcameras and Circuit city.
