Yes, Geminosity, Gentoo is a good distro but it's geared toward experienced users because of its manual command line installer and the fact that you have to compile everything from scratch. The end result though is a highly customized and tweaked system built from the ground up just for your PC. If you like Linux, like I did, by all means migrate to Gentoo.
Also, like many others have mentioned, I recommend Mandrake as a beginner's distro (just remember to back up first!) but it's only good use really is trying things out because of RPM dependency hell, bad security, difficulty in configuring (editing the auto generated config files or recompiling the kernel often breaks everything), and all of the bloat that gets installed (even if you go to the manual package selection and uncheck everything you still have things on there that you'll never use).
Finally, you can run Steam in Linux using WineX but it's a fight from the start as various problems occur such as low FPS, bad sound, Steam glitches, etc. I managed to get NS running (and quite playable too) but not at Windows speed.
Good luck!

Bad news!
Snowy is having a severe allergic reaction combined with a bad paw and he can barely walk now along with the fact that he won't eat, use his litter box, or stop hiding. The vet said he is going to have to be put to sleep.

Cats are ugly,boring and stupid.
*Flame removed. Sorry, but it might have provoked response.* There was absolutely no point in saying that at all. If you don't like it, then steer clear.

No. With only so many slots, it would be much better to have them full of LM members instead of your average ex-CS UT2k4 demo player.

That's odd -- the license plate does not show up in the Linux version. Maybe it will in the final, but it hasn't been fully ported yet.

It should have been a GIF from the beginning to reduce artifacts.

It's Snowy! Too bad his eyes got messed up again from the flash. He doesn't look like a spawn of Satan in real life.

1) The middle column is reserved for our admins. If you're not an admin, don't write there. When the admins get theirs in, then you can fill in the spaces under it. This is just a way to seperate the catagories, and a privledge for them. Reserved slots / everyone else gets the two columns on the sides.
Sorry.

If you like Linux a lot, but you can't play NS in it so you have to dual boot, here is the solution! Along with minor FPS issues and no voice comm (hey, no more spam from me!).
Read the guide here.
I hope you guys find this of use to you. It took me a while to write and figure out how to get it to work (especially the sound...).

This one is for all of you 56kers out there who miss their AOL <3.
Personally I miss the chat rooms, the download channels that go at 300 bytes per second, WELCOME YOU GOT MAIL, and the VB5 private chat. Gotta love home made punting apps, .bas files, KNK4Life, and phadez (a blend of two colors created by HTML tags). Yeah those were the good old days. My word scrambler bot was awesome. And then AOL would keep patching all of our punts and we would just keep finding more bugs. And then everyone traded punters with each other and had 1000+ collections of them. Several though were viruses and I even got my comp wiped out by one. Kind of strange when you run a .EXE and nothing happens but your hard drive starts going crazy. I hit CTRL+ALT+DEL and saw DELTREE and paniced. My files were gone for good, along with my punters. Of course today I realize just how immature the VB5 chat really was. People would scroll swearwords right and left and the whole room was flaming each other the whole time. You were kind of limited though as far as chats went because AOL firewalled your internet and blocked just about every port, including port 6667. This became dubbed the AOL ban by DALnet regulars, which I managed to sneak on by an IRC proxy my friend hosted on port 80. Of course, now I think AOL shut those rooms down. Bad AOL... but now I have my cable internet so who cares?

FFS. It's all I had before I wiped out Gentoo. You guys do NOT NEED TO FLAME ME. Flaming is FAR worse than offense I have commited. I had no intentions of showing off. That was actually my desktop. Yell at Linux, he's the one that has all of the emulators and games ported to it. Me, I'm just a gamer. And if you can't accept that, then please leave a GAMING forum. And if you look at any other dedicated Linux user's system, you'll see the much of the same. Last, do you honestly think I would have put together that shot LAST SEPTEMBER (look at gkrellm and snort tails) to show off to you pathetic fools at LM months later? Don't answer -- it's a rhetorical question.

Wow is that a real cat?
Of course he's real... and he's only hopped up on there once in seven years, hence the picture. Also, blame the messed up eyes on the camera. They're really brown in real life.
