I was kind of surprised to see how many people were already in the channel when I joined last night. Seems that this is on its way to becoming a solid mod.

I have to admit that I wasn't part of any major communities that posted anything about the announcement of WoW instead of a second Starcraft. However, I have read a lot about what other people want in a new Starcraft, and from the looks of it, Blizzard might have good reason in waiting. First there's the debate between keeping it two dimensional or making it three dimensional; A lot of people would rather have a more 'classic' look to it, while a lot of others want to see Starcraft in some solid 3D glory. Then there's the idea of if they'll impliment the Hero system that Warcraft III brought in, as well as having to create new units and structures for each race. It takes a lot of time and effort to create the games that Blizzard has created, it isn't just a fluke or dumb luck. They can't go around pleasing everybody everywhere, especially if a lot of people don't speak up for what they want to see.

You aren't constantly stationary when fighting an enemy in WoW. You can move around to avoid their melee attacks; granted not in the same dodging style of PSO, but you can still be mobile while attacking. I know it isn't anything new and amazing, I know it isn't incredibly creative, but I do know that it is fun. The key combinations idea is certainly very innovative, but it sounds like the encounters would be stale as each person stands in a stationary spot while typing out the combination. Think "Typing of the Dead" in an MMO, and that doesn't sound all that entertaining.

I can usually do well enough as a fade, but getting the experience necessary as a skulk is a pain in the ass. I would lerk more often, but I usually get shot down after one kill. As an Onos with Celerity and Stomp, I can hold the marines back really well, as long as I don't encounter them in the side room with all of the ramps and those annoying guardrails (left exit from marine start).

Looks very nice, Satiagraha. When I get mobile, I'm definitely going for a soldid sound system; Music is too much of an obsession for me to want to skimp on anything.

And how easy it is to camp in the hallways just outside of the hive, as well as the rooms outside of those hallways, as well as the room outside of those rooms... There's just too many open places where the marines can slaughter the aliens.

I've only been able to play maybe one game on ns_altair; I suppose so many people hate it enough that a lot of servers pull it out of rotation. It seemed nice, although there are a few areas that I know were kind of clunky to move around in.

I agree with Malevolent that the newer maps aren't all that great. I know that a lot of you don't like combat, but I have to say most games on co_sava have been pretty painful.

If this ever becomes a serious idea, it sounds like mapping would be easy to do, a nice start for someone like me who doesn't really have any mapping experience.  ^_^

Also, nice intro.

Uranium: Glad to know I'm not crazy when I try to explain to my friend  why I don't like EQ2's graphics.

Geminosity: Of course I'd want it.

lolfighter: It isn't so much polish as it is fixing a lot of problems that occur in MMO's. Blizzard is doing a very nice job of making the game flow better, allow users to become more involved with their character by providing more solid content, and fulfilling the wish of people everywhere to play in the Warcraft universe from the perspective of one person instead of an invisible hand commanding massive armies.

Yes, there are games that don't bring any new ideas to the industry, but that doesn't mean a game should absolutely have to bring out something new. There are a lot of games out there that brought some really cool new idea, but turn out to be gimmicks, like the destructable walls and floors in Red Faction. And the games that do bring some new idea, some new innovation, like Planetside, get bashed to hell for no good reason.

And in the end, if you really want to see some changes made, you can't sit idly by complaining and expect things to magically happen. Get involved in a community, express your interests and ideas; chances are there are other people with similar views who would join you and speak up more about what they want to see.

There have always been too many people ready to jump on the negativity bandwagon and complain sooner than discuss maturely. Someone would make a thread about a game they've been playing and would like to recommend, or a game they're looking forward to, and people post in the thread just to say "That game sux, why would you ever play it?" and never respond again, or, in a worse situation, come back to bash the topic even more. That on top of how many people make small posts just to get their postcount up, not adding anything constructive to a thread at all.

You're preaching to the choir when you bring up the sig and avatar limits around me. As someone who's been around on different forums, I like the limited size that the NS and LM boards have. People often put whatever random image they have into a sig just to have a sig, but with the limits there is less random junk in a sig and it adds more of a challenge for someone who likes to make sigs; I have less room to work with to make something that looks cool without being annoying or an eyesore.

I never said that the NS forums were bad, I never said the moderators weren't doing their jobs; I was merely expressing the fact that I can only handle a certain amount of general lameness that a lot of the members display. For a long while, I really enjoyed being part of a community, communicating with people that had shared similar interests. But eventually, all of the little things that annoyed me, the postcount whores, the general asshats, and did what I tell other people to do: leave. I didn't like the atmosphere, I didn't like the annoyances, so instead of remaining and turning into an angry troll, I left.

I have recently begun reading the boards again, usually in my free time in class. There are a lot of intelligent individuals on the boards, a lot more people that are able to say "Hey, that isn't cool" to people who are being rude or inconsiderate, and people that do a very nice job presenting a topic they enjoy and want to share with others, such as the threads about the Nintendo DS for example. There are more people that I can identify with and express my ideas without worrying so much about someone posting "That idea is stupid" and running off.

So next time, at least make an attempt to understand my reasoning before going off and scold me. I'm not just some young "teenangster" who goes around hating things for no real good purpose.

It would seem he's merely teasing everyone now. Perhaps the idea of more pics was just a ploy?

Yea, but there's always the people that will complain about CS. The idea had been brought to mind, I don't mean to insinuate that you were complaining about CS.

As for the Halflife 2 mods (and mods for any game, as well), I think the one theme that I get tired of is "post-apocalypse". Sure, it may sound cool to be fighting in a half-destroyed, completely deserted city, but when so many people think it's so cool, it becomes overused and annoying.

Funny thing I've found about Counterstrike is I've never heard any of the CS fans actually say it was "realistic"; It's always been the anti-CSers that bring it up.

That's really gotta suck, getting your entire online self (aside from the forum part) stolen like that. Is there any reason why someone would want to take it all like that? An angry ex girlfriend does sound like a viable idea.

Stolen accounts aside, welcome back! Good to know at least one thing wasn't taken from you.  :)

Manuevering around on ns_metal and ns_agora is clunky and quite a chore, which really makes it more annoying to play on either.

It's helpful if you're trying to determine how you sound in game, so you don't have to sit there "How's this, can you hear me any better?". It doesn't have much other use unless you want to hear yourself constantly, and it does feel like you're interrupting yourself, but it isn't too hard to adjust to it.
