Your Funniest Mistake When You Were A Newbie

after testing out the chair, i went aliens and climbed onto the hive and tried to get into the little opening in the hive to become the "alien" commander.

Aside from the usual newbie things like "How do I make a turret" and "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT THING!!!?", etc, I don't recall any mistakes that were out of the ordinary.

I had the great advantage of having someone who wanted to train me in every aspect of the game and several friends who would play on a private server with me while I un-noobed myself. (<3 Sancho) I can't recall any specifically idiotic mistakes being made. However, if Sancho appears in this thread I'm sure he can think of something embarassing to tell about me. ; )

I haven't made any really stupid mistakes, but the reason is because my buddy Blaq went over the basics before I even played.

Lightning Blue and I did the same thing (not in the same server but... you know)


First game was ns_nancy. Within seconds, we both managed to fall down the vent that's under the broken grating.

You can't escape from that vent.

Yep that was the major mistake I made and I will always remember it.

lol, i remember somehow wandering my way into a hiveroom by myself (as a rine) and pulling out my knife and slashing the hive once. I then proceeded to empty my clips into the res tower that was next to the hive. I ran out of ammo just as like 5 skulks parasited me to death as i sat there going *click* *click*

I went aliens, then switched to marines. I was walking around then screen tip thing said "This is a commander chair, Press E to command the marines" So i did it after another marine jumped out to build. I got in and dropped alot of stuff then didnt know how to get out...We lost the game and i stayed in the chair till they killed it.

i asked for a welder a bunch of times in 1.04 (my first time as marine) and i stood as a unbuilt turret for about 4-5 minutes until someone called me a noob and told me how to do it, the whole server came crashing down laughing at me

my newbies part was running in circles for 3 days figuring out what to do and i ran into comm chair. I had aim up durring playing ns(stupid me) and it popped up and frooze ns for me. i got it unfrooze like 5 mins later and they had just ejected me, a few seconds before. <3

I didn't really make many newbie mistakes... I whored the forums for the better part of a year before launch, so I jumped right into the comm chair and was mistaken for a playtester a few times... Good times .

I started playing October 31st, 2002, the day v1,0 was released, after having read the manual and looked over the tech tree a week in advance.  I had been a registered forum user since April 2002.  Even if I had made some noob mistakes, everyone else was a noob too so no one knew the difference.  Although I did take about a month break and in that time everyone figured out that you could only have one gorge.  So when I tried it out again, I went gorge and starting putting up stuff and got insta-kicked.

Actually, Bob, you were quite a bright one and actually listened to me while I was trying to teach you, as opposed to the other 3 or 4  <_<  I can't recall anything too stupid you did, because my head had already exploded after all the other marines ran off. :blink:

sending the rines to that hidden sorta rt in refinery on bast. having never actually PLAYED the map, i didn't know you had to go all the way around to build the rt

I would have to say my silliest mistake as a nooblet would have been on nancy. We relocated to one of the hives, but I was the only one there, my other team having ramboed off and died somehow.

So, I jump in the chair being the all knowing nooblet that I figured I was, and drop 2 IPs. Then I can't figure out how to get out of the CC. I eventually ended up freaking out, with the whole team yelling at me, and I just turned my computer off mid-game, still in the chair. Took a few days before I played again... Good times, eh?

Oh, now that I think about it, I remember asking people about a week after NS came out how you turn off the shield so you can get out to the satellite on Tanith

i started Oct 31st as well and i hosted a server or too and only made a mistake once and that was dropping an oc on the rt thing  :blink:    <_<
