Here is the headset I have:

It's a Plantronics .Audio 60. It should be fine. But nobody can ever hear me when I'm talking in game, even with the microphone volume turned up to max.

Therefore, I think I need a new headset with a better microphone.

What do you use/recommend?

I'll start with the obvious.

Have you tested the mic? Have you checked your HL settings? Try turning on echo in order to see if you can hear it yourself.

Its obvious, but you would be surprised...

1) Check the connections, if it's plugged in right
2) Check for muted volume in the volume control
3) Check for some physical switch for mic (a knob, button, etc)
4) Check if voice is enabled in NS
5) Turn on "mic boost" or something like that in volume control + NS sound options

That's max on everything. Mic boost is on. Everything else is as far up as it goes.

Very low volume, so I'm told. I'm always being told to speak up; if I hold my mike closer to my face so it's practically in my mouth then people can hear me normally. If it were possible to keep it in that position I'd probably just do that, but short of taping it to my face that doesn't work; it springs back to its original position about an inch from my mouth.

I READ YOU HAD MAXED THE VOLUME

However that didnt tell us which volume you maxed.

Anyhow, did you try echoing to hear it yourself? Is it possible you have LM whisper syndrome?

Get one :)

The only problem with it, is that little foam piece on the mic slides off really easy.. but a drop of glue fixes it quite nicely

Drubo before you start taking it back I think I know the prob. Like 2 of 8 mentioned in his last point.

On my comp I have plantronics mic and headset (think its the 20 version) And I too sounded very quiet until 1 day I looked in Sound Advanced or something like that and found a boost mic tick box. It makes a biggg difference.

And if it keeps being a problem, if you don't find any other way to fix it... I'm pretty sure this program can increase the volume of input, and output it to the next program - that's NS.

Yes, best headphones ever. If it does wind up being a hardware problem, then buy one of these as a replacement.

I use one of these!

well.. 2 of these actually, they were good to me for over a year, then there was a mysterious problem with the cord and sound kept dropping off the right side..
so i went to J&R and bought myself another one :D

the .audio 90's are an excellent investment and you wont be let down.
plus it's by plantronics too.

btw, i've never tried loopback 1.. how do i sound in-game? i never get any complaints but i dunno how exactly it is

other than that, i think any fixes i had in mind have already been mentioned

I came here a long time back because LB said "lol u r from texas 2?"  and I was like "y yes, yes I R!!"

Then I stopped.

I was considering coming in under a different name, to prevent any situations arising from being recognized, but what the hell.
