Official Server Rules

Welcome to the rules thread for our game servers. This will be split into sections, the first section applies to any game we host, then there will be subsections.



General Rules:

• Always respect your fellow player. We're here to kill stress and have fun, not have stress and kill fun.
• Avoid stacking teams. We understand if you want to play with friends, but try and keep the teams from being lopsided or the server might do it for you. This rule especially applies to organized clans/groups. If you are really good and are flat out topping the scoreboards and carrying your team, consider toning down your game or finding another server.
• Spawncamping is not allowed.
• Trollish behavior which seeks to cause trouble by merely skirting the rules or pushing the limits of rules and staff is not welcome here. AKA: Don't be a llama (in 2003 terms). Commonly known as griefing or llama-ish behavior, playing in a way to degrade the gameplay of those around you. This can be smurfing with the intent to harass, not cooperating, spamming communications, or generally being more of a curse than a help.
• Do not abuse friendly fire, if applicable.
• Over the top advertising is not permitted.
• Cheating or abusing exploits will result in a permanent ban. No exceptions.
• AFK Players will generally be autokicked within five minutes.
• Do not spam chat or voice communications.
  

Natural Selection 2:

• This is a rookie friendly server. If you're new, we're here to help! With that said, avoid being the commander when a rookie unless your team encourages it for training purposes, just ask!
• Due to potential abuse, spectator mode is disabled except for staff or reserved slot holders.
• Do not F4 during the game to sit in the Ready Room just because you are losing. F4 is only acceptable to even out the teams.
• Mines are not allowed in an active or building hive.
• NS2 is about teamwork. Obey your commander, listen to your team, work together! Use common sense. Be an asset to your team, not a liability.

Rule enforcement policy:

Due to the nature of the NS2 community, permanent bans will be handed out rarely. While actual enforcement will be up to the individual server admins, the general policy will be as follows:

• You'll be warned by an admin to stop doing whatever it is you're doing.
• You'll be kicked, or temp banned for 5-60 minutes to allow you to cool your heels.
• If you continue after that, we'll note you in a log and ban you for longer.
• Some offenses will result in a no questions asked permanent ban.

The old rules from NS1 for reference. I'll be heavily cutting up the first post.

1. Spawncamping is not allowed.
This server promotes a team environment that is competitive and also enjoyable. We want all players to enjoy the experience, and feel spawncamping detracts from that. Spawncamping includes, but is not limited to:
o Killing players as they spawn for rfk, stat whoring, or any other reason besides an active assault on hive/CC.
o Routinely pressing the hive location/marine spawn for the specific purpose of killing spawning players, otherwise know as a "Drive by".
o Placing mines in an active hive or building hive is not allowed, period.
o If you are pressuring the hive/MS to end the game, do not camp the entrances and kill them as they come out, without moving in. Although you are not IN the spawn area, denying the team any chance of defense while blocking spawn exits will be considered spawncamping without adequate pressure to kill the hive/MS.

2. Don't be a llama.
Commonly known as griefing or llama-ish behavior, playing in a way to degrade the gameplay of those around you. This can be smurfing with the intent to harass, not cooperating, spamming communications, or generally being more of a curse than a help.

3. Purposefully attacking teammates or team structures when friendly fire is on is bannable.
Having Friendly Fire on is a benefit, don't make it a curse. If you accidentally TK a teammate, apologize or signify it is in someway an accident. Knifing/biting friendly targets for XP in Combat, or to destroy or damage in NS will not be tolerated in any way.

4. Do not recycle IP's or F4 during the game. F4 is only acceptable to even out the teams.
Changing teams to even them is permitted (and encouraged) when teams are uneven by two or more players, but do not F4 because you know you will lose. Let the team have the victory, or leave the server and come back later. If the other team is purposely dragging the game out, notify an admin. Recycling base to end the game can result in a ban. Do not recycle active IP's unless you have successfully relocated elsewhere.

5. No advertising of any kind is allowed on the server.
This includes, but is not limited to, advertising in names, voicechat or text messages. No web links, IRC chatrooms, or other forms of advertising allowed.

6. Please respect all players always. Don't swear other people out.
Keep the language PG-13, and never direct insults toward another player. If things get too frustrating, leave for a bit.

7. NS is about teamwork. Obey your commander, listen to your team. Don't be a llama. Don't be a commander or a gorge if new.
Use common sense. Be an asset to your team, not a liability. If you're new, we're here to help, but ask before trying to command and be sure the team agrees on what chamber to build with each hive. Watch other, more experienced players before evolving for that higher lifeform. Do not be a griefer, spamming communications begging for weaponry, listen to your commander or team, and try to be a teamplayer.

8. No Clan-Stacking. You may be switched to even teams without warning.
Two clan members to a team is usually fine. Keep it 1v1, 2v1, 2v2, 3v2, etc. Try to keep the teams as even as possible skill-wise. if you want to play with a friend or clanmate, we're not against it, just don't make a team so onesided it's not fun for anyone. For regulars, it means joining the team you think needs the most help, for new players, random when you can.

9. Using cheats, skin, game or map exploits & abusing spectator chat is cause for a ban.
Pretty clearly stated, blatant hacking or abuse results in a ban.

10. Do not spam chat or voicecomm. We kick AFK'ers.
Keep the atmosphere relatively clear of useless chatter, or you may be gagged, muted, kicked or banned. Want to discuss girls, or have a chat with a friend, go to IRC. If you have chatbinds for health/ammo/weld, don't spam it. Try to keep it in check. Excessive abuse will result in a kick, or a ban. We have an auto-AFK kicker.

11. To dispute a ban or for abuse claims, please sign up for our forums and post your complaint in the PR Forum.
All PR forum posts are read by our admins, so if you feel wrongly banned, leave a post in the forum. Please indicate why you were banned, what warnings you received, and why you feel it is unjust.  Include your SteamID.
