Don't try then. Have some tea or warm milk or a snifter of brandy, whatever your relaxing drink of choice is. Get comfortable, read a book. Anything but Stephen King's "Insomnia" as I don't think it would help you much.

Is this a constant problem, or just something that's happened lately to you?

try not to think

Niteowl has mastered this, after YEARS of effort.  >:D

No really, how can you 'try not to think'?? That's like saying 'whatever you do, DON'T THINK OF FLAMING RABBITS'. What are you thinking of now? Exactly. Just let your mind wander, or try some basic zen relaxation techniques which will no doubt be easily found with a quick application of google.

hmm... have you tried drinking till you've passed out?
or maybe someone should just bash you over the head with a blunt instrument. I can onlly think of these as non-medication soloutions, even if both will result in some measure of brain damage.
This is going to be some kind of reunion, isn't it?

i thought the end idea of zen meditation, well one of them, is not thinking.

Start poppin' the pills, j/k. Hmm... I don't know what to say to help exactly except don't eat before you go to bed; don't take a shower too close to bedtime; no caffeine after 3 hours before you usually go to bed. That's all I can think of.

a good book always knocks me right out.  You have to replace the boxing glove into the book, and reset the spring each time it does though.

Medication is probably not a good idea anyway. From what I understand it tend to put you into a more false state of sleep where you are passed out but you don't get the good REM sleep, the kind that makes you feel rested. So you're right on there. Hrmm... if it's been a chronic problem then you're probably heard all the home remedies already. I'm sure everyone's got one. I'm not sure WHAT to tell you now. = (

That good book idea works.  The only thing you have to remember is that your room has to be dark.  The book can be light up, but everything else should be black.  Also make sure the book isn't a page turner or scary.  That will keep you up all night.

Oh yeah I forgot exercise does work.  For a few days I would do about 50 bench dips, 20 push ups and some other stuff right before I went to bed.  I always slept like a baby.  That is of course after I got over the adrenalin rush from the workout.

Assuming a rate of 5 numbers per second, you were counting for 108 hours and 10 minutes.

Try to do something to make the world better. That will give you a peace of mind and you will sleep like a baby. You will become a good person and make the whole world look lile a better place to live in.
