I went to go pick up the parts for this the other day but they were sold out of the 4000 am2 sockets, I'm still waiting but I'm getting second thoughts now to go with the Pentium D 950 which is in stock and cheaper, I want to know if I should stick with the new AMD sockets or go Pentium (Please dont say wait for the Conroe). I just wanted to double check if it was a good build I'm getting, My budget is $1500 CAD.

Honestly, I'd go for the latest last gen AMD sockets. Other than faster ram support, you're not going to be all that impressed with the AM2 chips, and from what I've heard, the latest preAM2 sockets have very solid motherboards and great pricing.

Just my $.02

What? DDR2 is next gen DDR...

IR, are you building this yourself?  If so, and you don't need HD output on the video card, you cane save $20, by going with one from newegg.. I've decided on N82E16814125025 , which is a passively cooled 7600GT, for $20 less then the one you have.

Also, be advised it does not look like your DVD burner can burn or even use normal CDs.

Compared to DDR.. yes, DDR2 is still relatively new, you should be comparing its timings to first or second gen DDR memory.

Give it time, as manufactueres produce better memory chips, the timings will go down.

I didn't know that that was possible.. hmm. Is it really, or are you saying because there's no mention of "CD" on the name? That's freaky, then :p

Ahh now people are telling me that AMD is going to have a price cut on the 24th of July to counter Intel's Conroes. What to do, I dont even know if thats true but it sounds reasonable.

Pretty sure they use different LAZORBEAMS (PEWPEWPEW)
I know for example, my DVD drive CAN read CDs, just not as fast as my CD drive... and it makes horrible noises and the CD comes out feeling like its been in an oven.

I've made my final choice, I'm getting a E6600 Core 2 Duo w/ a X1800XT.
