Ive kept quiet with a few things i thought would have been obvious by now. But im gonna say em. Might sound insulting to certain parties, but seriously. Keep in mind, that although I suck, I have been playing HL mods since 1999 (Hobbit, the creator of cs_office used to live down the hall from me and introduced me to cs before it went public beta) and ive been playing NS since the EARLY days of 1.04. I've also been admin on many many servers and even joined the ranks of CAL admins once upon a time (before i realized that most of them were full of crap teenage wastes of life).
1.) If you take A MONTH to spec someone enough to figure out theyre hacking, then chances are, theyre not. No admin who has "seen enough of em" to know someone's hacking would take a month. And if that is indeed the case, i'd expect to see close to a GB or more worth of demos collected as evidence. If you spec for a month and show one demo as proof, sorry bub, that doesnt cut the mustard.
2.) WALLHACKS ARE INTEGRATED INTO NS! MT and SC anyone?
3.) Rines can be heard even when walking. This is a fact. Due to the set speeds at which rines strafe and turn, footsteps are still intermittent.
4.) The oldest trick in the book (which doesnt get caught by mp_consistency) is to delete the sound files for alien footsteps! This way, you can hear anything anytime without being impeded by the sound of your own motion. It's a very simple process, and i know plenty of clanners who do it and CAL doesnt care!
5.) If he does have wallhax, how would that really effect gameplay considering point #2 that i made? So he can see rines without sens or aliens without mt, sure its an advantage (albeit slight as both teams are likely to get those traits anyway), but hes not immortal, and sure as hell didnt have an aimbot.
6.) Plenty of other things make noise, such as reloads, comms, etc. People also check common hiding spots. I cant tell you how many times ive been a skulk hiding in an obscure ass dark corner and a rine whips around a corner and blasts me...because the spot was obscure to me, not to him.
7.) Last, but not least, he killed an NSPlayer. Someone who hasnt played for long enough to be able to change his name (i was teaching my bro how to play under a different name when HD got banned...i saw the final scores, that NSPlayer was indeed new to NS). What does that tell you?
There was once a time when I thought that certain people on the server used hax. So i spec'd, demo'd and watched the demos in slow motion. I found no evidence. HD was one of those people. And let me clue you in on something that anyone who uses hax will tell you: THEY WATCH THE SCORES! If they see someone in spec, theyre not going to make any moves to make the hax apparent unless theyre pub hopping and dont care anyway. People arent stupid. HD wasnt here for pub hopping. He was a part of the community.
And his comments both here and in IRC? I'D DO THE SAME DAMN THING! Wouldnt you? If you were a regular, a RSer and an Admin to boot, and someone accuses you of hax and then bans you from the forums, irc and the server without giving you a chance to back yourself up? I'd be REALLY ****IN PISSED OFF. So it's completely understandable that he blew up in your faces and told you what you wanted to hear out of sarcastic rage. He was never given his chance. Sentence was passed without appeal before the evidence even came to light.
Before you ostracize someone, make sure you got the facts. Give people a chance to defend themselves. Quit jumping to conclusions and telling someone you hate their ****ing guts and then turn around and say "wait, was it a joke?" Admins are frequently wrong about hax, especially in situations where people are extremely skilled and they surpass the admin's own abilities. Its the "he can do something i cant do, so he must be cheating" syndrome. Maybe this should be re-evaluated by people who arent so quick to judge. Sorry if i offended anyone, that was not the intent, however, it seems that many many people are missing the obvious here.
