Ok, I installed this silent package dealy (MB, CPU fan, box fan), it's alright, it is quieter, and was on the cheap. Anyhoo, everytime it boots up, my box thinks that the CPU fan isn't running!! but it is! ARGH! Is there some setting i have to check in the bios or something?

TIA

is it plugged into your mobo in the "CPU FAN" connector?

Maybe if you get a bunch of bees and put them in a jar next to the computer it'll think it's the fan and it'll detect it!

i assume that you can still boot the machine, what with the postings and all.

My mainboard has probems with my pwoersupply fan and system fan  both ahve a read out of 0 rpm in the monitor, however it isnt a life threatening probem as i knwo both still run.

You could try a firmware upgrade on the board. it's just that stuff like that tends to give me the screaming heebie jeebies. my theory is that if it works even if it cascades errors its better than trying something you aren't sure will work.

however keep in mind i have been up all night for no good reason. so in addtion to the random typos I am sure i have inserted, the whole thought may be off topic or irrelevant.

To the first point, yeah, firmware updates, BIOS flashing and whatnot is pretty damn freaky.. So I think I"ll just deal with having to press N when it boots up. And to the second point we were discussnig the dewpoint in the 1800's around the more industrial parts of Topeka and it's effect on the south bumpity skinned toad's ideal micro climate.

The fan rpms come through the central wire on a three wire fan connector. Check your wires. My fan uses a regular drive-size power connector, but there's a seperate wire coming off of it that plugs to the mobo just to send rpm info. Mayhap this is your problem, good sirrah?

Edit: At least, I think it's the middle wire... may be one on the side now that I think of it. Anyway, does your connector have THREE wires? HMMMM?

electricity, by nature, requires 2 wires

i bet the way it knows is because you're not pulling as much voltage as it thinks you oughta, see how many volts your old fan used, vs the new one, and you might be able to jury rig a resistor to fool it
Virus removed.
Your sig pic contained naughty language. Removed. -lolfighter
I never had a sig pic :p
Then where'd that picture come from?

Get wire. Get another wire. Stick both of 'em in the outlet and touch the metaly bits. The awesome feeling you feel now is RAW POWER, a.k.a. electricity, coursing through your body.

Alright, take two meeces, put one tail in one of the tall skinny looking holes in the wall, and put the other's tail in the tall skinny hole directly next to it.  Hold both meeces at the same time and wala!  Instant fried meeces.
