As I was leaving the store today with my shiny new hard drive there was this most amazing sunset across the whole entire sky. There was none or very little wind so the clouds were not moving, and the fact that over half the sky was tinted pink (sun-side near total pink, other mainly gray, with varying amounts between) made the sky look like a painting. It did not look like a sky.

This 'flatness' of the sky made me feel exactly like I was inside a video game with a 2D skybox.
Most erie, strange, skin-tingling feeling evar. o_O :o

Anyone else have similar tales to tell of odd feelings?

I have honestly looked at sunsets before and thought 'wow, I've got to download that skybox'. Right before pummeling myself into submission with any available blunt object.

God wins at mapping. If only we could get him to work for NS.

i think it's just the sky in general... it's just so big. it's kinda hard NOT to be amazed at it sometimes.

Well, it wasn't so much that I was amazed at it, but rather the flatness of it. Usually the sky looks 3D, it didn't at this time.

Hmm, I've never had that happen to me before, but I have seen some pretty cool looking sunsets.
It's twice as clear as heaven and twice as loud as reason.

Yeah, I aswell had that feeling the sky was blue and white big clouds all over. It looked like I was on a boardgame and ontop was the room around me.

space is gigantic when you let your mind dwell on it :D

and yeah, pwnage sunsets do wonders for thinking, it's cool watching a sunset in the fog, but being above the fog so you can see this carpet covering the town and the sun slowly settling  :D

oh, specs on the HDD?

Simple: Depth perception works through triangulation. Beyond a certain distance though, were not good enough at it to accurately perceive depth anymore, hence what we see will seem flat, and unless we know the approximate size of an object, it will not be possible to accurately gauge the distance. This is why looking down from a mountaintop is so... special.

Well yes LF, but it wasn't just that the sky seemed to have the texture of a painting too. I have never seen a sunset look so exactly like a painting before in my life.

The strangest feeling I've ever had is right now on the side of my neck.  There's a nice lump the size of a baseball.
