I got it working (at first), and the game is extremely good. Perhaps one of the best deathmatches I have ever played.

Even though the server I played on had 200 ping, all my shots hit and I could even hit people with the slow moving crossbow. Gravity gun works unbelievably well even in a 200 ping environment. Magnum is a bit overpowered, and the shotgun is a bit underpowered. You can nail people left and right if you can aim with the magnum.

But now I try to start it up and it doesn't load. Oh well.

But this release really excites me. After playing this, you get a glimpse of some of the amazing possibilities in the future.

The irony is killing me. One of the supposed strong points of Steam was supposed to be that "look, we can fix things in no time and you don't need to make a conscious effort to get those fixes!", and in the end it breaks stuff more often than it fixes it and you cannot make a conscious effort to avoid it.

(Or can you? It's been so long since I used Steam, can you turn off automatic updates?)

I assume the magnum is as powerful as it is in single player, since it's as strong as hell in it.

And yes, a 200 ping is very playable, and would make me happy.

The magnum seemed like a one-hit-kill to me in HL2DM

And yeah, the magnum is ridiculous.

Well, I think they just proved that they in fact are able to get fixes out rather quickly.

Can't confirm this atm, but it looks the like server cvar "sk_plr_dmg_357" should control the damage done by the magnum :)

its crazy powerful, BUT it is limited by its low ammo, and slow reload. I think if it took two shots to kill you without HEV armor then that would be fair.

The magnum SOMETIMES doesn't kill you in one hit, if you hit them in the leg of shoulder. Otherwise, you're done.

It's so odd that for so many people hl2 didn't work for them, and seemed to break their other games, such as cs:s.  For me the transition to hl2dm couldn't have been smoother (Except every server at first was either full, locked, or laggy).  All in all, hl2dm seemed like a successful release to me.

Immediately after the release of HL2DM last night, users who run Source Engine games (including Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source) under DirectX 7 or who run with less than the recommended amount of RAM were affected by a game crash. This caused them to be unable to run HL2 or CS:S for a short time. Shortly after midnight PST, we released a fix which cleared the problem up.

I think a patch within 3 hours is plenty quick, LF.
