Looks like I might be playing with you all after all... I think I'll be leaving the guild that's currently setting up over here because of the ridiculous powergamer aspect that's forming... from an email...
Quote
9am tuesday: acquire game
1pm Tuesday: acquire lvl 10
every free moment from tuesday till ???: play wow
For some reason, just being associated with powergamers really turns me off from the game.  Maybe it ruins the illusion/immersion of the world for me, I don't know (I don't have many hours to play so I play purely for the fun of exploration).  At any rate I'll check with the last sane friend I have who's actually staying for retail, and if he sticks with them, I might be joining you.

if you have no one going alch, be alch/herb, and start it early on. it goes along with your level nicely, and the potions aren't something a support character can be without.

alch is really nice early, but it can get to be REALLY hard later on. You need fishing, and you need to know where those hard to get herbs are. Oily blackmouth is annoying to fish for, and stranglekelp is rare as all hell.

I was an undead warlock and I will probably continue to be one.  theoretically I should try something different, but... but, DAEMONS...

as for server, if people decide to go to an east server, yay.  I wish the NS.org (now .com) forums were up; I like coordinating w/ as many ppl as possible :>

edit: btw, what's a good job for a warlock?  I tried alchemy and wasn't all that happy with it.  it was annoying to always be short 1 reagent or another, though I guess that's the case with any profession.

so if I don't want to be an alch again, is engineer any good for a warlock, or are there mail and leather restrictions that'll make it pointless?  should I go tailor or enchanter instead?  I fear going enchanter - that's gotta be hella expensive :>

I think I'm going to stick with Mining and Engineering; I had a lot of fun creating random things, like the Mechanical Squirrels, and people will pay a decent amount if they really want something simple like copper ore or bars.

Herbalism for a Tauren isn't a bad idea considering they get a 15 skill point starting bonus to it, similar to how Gnomes get a 15 skill point bonus to Engineering.

DiscoZombie: There are a number of Engineering schematics (recepies) that require different kinds of leather, but it isn't a problem if you know anyone who skins, or if you're willing to wait you can buy some for reasonably cheap prices at the auction houses. Almost everything an Engineer makes, the Engineer can use, and there are a number of items (Such as the special Goggles) that can only be used by Engineers.

Doobie: I agree on the power levelling bit. Sure, you get to the end game faster, and you can take people on in PvP sooner, but you skip so much of the game and the random stories and the adventures. That's the only problem I see in choosing a PvP server at the moment though, having to deal with all the power levelling guilds that will be there.

yeah, I guess my real question is whether anything important an engineer creates can only be worn by people who can wear mail... which would be sucky for a warlock :/

Well, Engineers don't make any armor, so you wouldn't have to worry about the mail thing, and from what I've seen their weapon creation is limited to guns of varying power.

Intensity Rising: I'd say you're better off saving your money. World of Warcraft has been fun for me, but I wouldn't buy the full version just to play it for a month. Unless you played it a lot and/or joined a power levelling guild, you wouldn't see much of the later game, and it would probably be better to buy a game that you can play as much as you want for the money you've got.

Now, before anyone runs off on a whiny tangent about how "Eww, you have to buy the game, and then buy it again and again every month", stop and think; For those of us that are getting the game, it's obviously entertaining enough to warrant the monthly fee, and it really isn't that much of a problem if you're running off of more than a weekly allowance.

I agree.  compare it to going to a movie or something.  if you see 2 movies a month, that's (probably) about the price WoW is gonna be.  now that's 4 hours of entertainment.  assuming you play WoW more than 4 hours a month, you're getting your money's worth.

alright now that we have most of our race/class/professions picked we need a server. We can still go Central, try and find the lowest population but I think every server will be crammed so it wont matter much, or we can do a mountain again as a last resort. We need to take into account the players on both sides of the country.

Place any ideas or votes on where we should play.

found a list of server here:

http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/serverforums.shtml

Central - Stormreaver

Again lets try and think about everyone on both sides of the country, I would like to make this happen.

Alright, found out what server my guild is going to: Tichondrius - Alliance.

I doubt many of you will go there, so I guess I won't be able to play with ya'll often, but I'll try.

Just like Grimm says: Paying full retail for a game and then only being able to play it for a month is an incredible waste of money. Since you can't pay for it monthly, you're in no position to waste money. Buy a game that you can enjoy for longer than that.

I think by 'buy it again every month' he meant pay the monthly fee... is it true they still haven't decided what that'll be?  I hope they're not holding off telling us cuz it's gonna be some crazy amount...  :o

but yeah, I heard the game cards are coming into stores next week so there WILL be a way to pay the monthly fee.

as for the server, I'm fine with central...

Told you not to try and go central *sighs* no one ever listens to me. In any case, changed factions, Horde instead of Alliance, still on Tichondrius (Pacific)
