i dont get these people who hate metal/lost/eclipse/veil. all 4 are very good maps. on the contrary, bast hera ayumi and mineshaft would have to be my personal "worst" maps. i like agora's sheer massiveness, its very easy to move around unlike hera that has a stupid amount of chokepoints and twists. also altair is kinda weird, maybe just cause i havent learned it yet, only played twice.

I never liked agora because of it's layout. I just don't like it. And I freaking hate that stupid bit of water next to the sewer hive! GRRR!!!  :angry:

Manuevering around on ns_metal and ns_agora is clunky and quite a chore, which really makes it more annoying to play on either.

I always loved caged. Marines tried to relocate to double node, you made a token effort of getting them out of there, making them believe that this was a GOOD position. Then you horribly, horribly raped them ten minutes later. Oh such horrible rape.

Ns_Altair is getting better though. KFDM is doing a lot of work on it and we'll likely have a MUCH better version for b6.  :D

You realize new maps have to compete with maps that have received years of playtesting.

Altair has quite a bit of potential, just needs to have (numerous) its problems fixed.  A lot of cool elements there.

That's true Dan, but it also seems like they're not even attempting to fix some of them *cough*ns_metal*cough*. Now, I'm not in the know, of course, so for all I know for the next version these maps could be revamped, but I doubt it.

altair has a nice feel to it. balance, gameplay, maybe not. but you always know you're on altair when you play it.

/edit: for the record, my most hated maps have to agora, bast and altair. not because i hate the layout, but because I inexplicably lag on all of these maps

I've only been able to play maybe one game on ns_altair; I suppose so many people hate it enough that a lot of servers pull it out of rotation. It seemed nice, although there are a few areas that I know were kind of clunky to move around in.

I agree with Malevolent that the newer maps aren't all that great. I know that a lot of you don't like combat, but I have to say most games on co_sava have been pretty painful.

Aye, I like most of the other maps, it's just sava (and ass3) that I can't stand. I guess it's just the layout that is annoying, or it could be the hive room with ramps next to the hive that the rines can just shoot down from... <_<

And how easy it is to camp in the hallways just outside of the hive, as well as the rooms outside of those hallways, as well as the room outside of those rooms... There's just too many open places where the marines can slaughter the aliens.

Yes. It seems that every time I play I'm hiding from the rines, waiting for them to come to me. The only way I've ever seen an alien victory is when the rines are ambushed and the aliens rush MS before the rines have a chance to respawn. If anything, Sava is a lerk and skulk map.

I can usually do well enough as a fade, but getting the experience necessary as a skulk is a pain in the ass. I would lerk more often, but I usually get shot down after one kill. As an Onos with Celerity and Stomp, I can hold the marines back really well, as long as I don't encounter them in the side room with all of the ramps and those annoying guardrails (left exit from marine start).

Altair has some wonderful elements and hopefully will be a great map to PLAY someday.  It just needs a lot of fixing and attention to playtests.

For what it's worth, I've just seen a recent build of altair by KFDM and my main complaint about it: TOO BRIGHT! So it's really going through a lot of changes. He's definitely trying to fix up the lighting and make it as playable and enjoyable as possible. In fact, I don't think I can recall seeing a mapper this involved and active in improving their map.

Excellent, I'm really glad to hear that.  Altair would die very quickly without a lot of attention... and I don't want to see that happen - every time I play on it, I'm like wow, this is some cool stuff in this map, I wonder what it'd be like to play a REAL game on it.  :)
