Ok, so up until today I was super excited for HL2 to be released.  But this weekend something BAD happened.  I became completely addicted to NS, specifically LM.  It doesn’t matter what time I play, there are always awesome people playing, as well as in IRC.  TV is no fun, sleeping is no fun, all I wanna do is hang out or play!

So here’s where the worried part comes in.  It’s going to be released and you all are going to leave me for it.  Like a drug dealer, you get me hooked and leave me hanging!!!!   PLEASE don’t do that to me, I can’t bear it!  As it sits right now I have this undying love for NS and for you LMers – don’t take that away from me!!!!!!!  :(

When Halflife 2 is released, we will all be playing some of it to see whats up and about instead of being on LM like we usually are. Therefore Grayduck wont have anyone to play with :(

I don't play NS for graphics or ragdoll physics or a bunch of barrels that I can shoot down that ACTUALLY ROLL OMG! I play NS for the awesome fps rts blend and the cool atmosphere and the basic fun design. I'm betting HL2 isn't going to come with an awesome updated version of NS, and that a mod even similar to NS isn't going to be out for a long long time. (there are some in the works, but I know how long it usually takes to get an HL1 mod out {some time between a year and eternity, for a mod that's at all worth playing} and an HL2 mod will likely take even longer) SO, I'm betting a lot of us will still be playing NS for a while yet. At least until Unknown Worlds gets off it's feet and gets NS2 designed and released.

By "atmosphere", do you mean everyone turning up their gamma to the point that flashlights become useless?  :p

I've just started my first year of college, I'm youthful and energetic and can stay up late, and television bores me (save for a couple channels), and I have no driver's license, so I'm almost always here in front of my computer. Although I have started college and will have more homework and such soon, I've still got loads of free time on my hands. Even after Halflife 2 comes out, many of us will still play any other games we've been playing. I didn't stop playing Halflife when I got Unreal Tournament 2003, and I didn't stop playing Sarcraft when I got Warcraft 3; I may be really really into the newer game for a while, but I won't completely leave everything else behind.

One thing I'm wondering though: You are getting a copy of Halflife 2 as well, aren't you?

Bob beats me to it once again:

HL2 singleplayer will be over in a week or less, depending on how much you play a day. Multiplayer will probably be standard dm, so nothing new there. And what kind of mods do we get at first? CS:S. To quote Jimi Hendrix:
Excuse me while I puke in the toilet.
The good mods that I hope we will see will be a while in the coming. Until then, NS will still be top of the pops.

No singleplayer game can keep people away from an awesome mutliplayer experience for long (unless it's a very long RPG :p).

i've considered this, actually, and i came to a realization that, although half life 2 will have awesome graphics 'n physics 'n sh-...tuff, it will still be a single player game with a stupid deathmatch multiplayer, not my kind of game.  i really have been spoiled by broadband and highspeed internet, as i can no longer play without getting very very bored very very quickly against computers.  online gaming is the thing of it, online ns gaming is the king.  i'll still be around.  as long as my internet/router doesn't screw up again!

grumble.

I've never really disliked the basic Halflife Deathmatch, and I still hop on a server for a few rounds relatively often. With what new maps Halflife 2 will have, along with the new physics engine and weapons, I'm looking forward to Halflife 2 Deathmatch.

Do you think we'd be able to get a HL2 Deathmatch server up, in place of the dead CS and HLDM server?

until HL2 gets a mod where i can yell at ppl, and they will actually try and follow orders, i'll be sticking to NS :D

Pfsh, there are plenty of newer games out there that could have already pulled us away from NS.  What makes you think HL2 will be any different?   :)

Any time the Lunixmonster is on combat, I'll be there. Unless it's when the server is completely empty at 3 a.m. and I'm sound asleep in bed. :D

I don't even play NS and I talk to you, so that's one less threat of abandonment to worry about.
