In general we try to avoid the religion topic around here. For several reasons. Please find your stereotype below:

True Believers: You're not going to convert the unwashed unbelieving pagans and stubborn hellbound atheists via the internet. It's just not going to happen.

Educated Atheists: You're not going to convince the mindless people stuck on their outmoded belief systems to change anything because of a post you made on the internet.

Skyclad Neo-Pagans: Everyone already agrees that wearing black all the time makes you look cool, so you've got no one to convince. (This is the internet, after all)

Now that I've pigeonholed and offended everyone equally, let's drop religion and go back to a safe and sane topic: politics.

These aren't verbatim because I can't be bothered to watch that again.

"John Kerry betrayed the POW/MIAs"

And betraying our country is better?

"John Kerry's committe had no conclusive reports about POWs still being held."

Bush didn't have any real reports about WMDs either.

As for you, Krunk/Uzi, my old nemesis on these matters, your 're-retort' had THREE religious references in the first two sentences alone. Religion has absolutely NOTHING to do with politics. George Washington. Thomas Jefferson. Benjamin Franklin. John Adams, and Abe Lincoln. Guess what they all have in common? They weren't christians, and most were athiests. And surprisingly, I don't see George W. Senior on the list of the nation's greatest presidents. They saw firsthand what religion does to government, and surprisingly, they're the ones who made our country. Now we're back where biblethumping hicks like you vote Bush because he preaches good christian values. If you can't wrap your feeble mind around that concept, you have no business even living in America where speration of church and state is in our first amendment. I suggest going back to Afghanistan - maybe living under a religious regime is good for you? Maybe the Taliban will let you fight for them.

Why do people oppose :p marriage? Because the bible say gays are an attrocity, and god smote the cities of Sodom and Gamorrah for it. You grow up with religion beat into your skull and you've got someone else doing all your thinking for you.

George Bush: "No, I don't know that athiests should be considered citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots. This is one nation under god."

John Adams to Thomas Jefferson: "This would be the best of all possible worlds, if there were no religion in it."

I could solve the whole :p issue with 1 move.

"remove marriage from the government"

There I solved that issue rather quickly. And yes this is one nation under god.

I don't preach good christian values. I posted a link from an author who is well respected in both conservative and liberal thinktanks. I don't see why you dock him because of his religous beliefs, It seems to me if anyone cares about religous freedom it would be the liberals. I mean they are the ones after all who want headscarfs on womans head when taking a picture for a driver's license.

Jefferson was but one person in the drafting the constitution. But I don't understand how it only applies to christians, how come is it that exceptions like in California are made for those of other religions?

it's hard to imagine that the re-retort link you posted is actually a retort to my link. did you have anything to say about it krunk?

i have nothing against REAL republicans, there are a few things i agree with when talking to a dyed in the wool REAL replublican:
-small gov't, in general, is good
-hardline about the separation of church and state

there are actually quite a few christians and religious types who oppose bush. it's just that you hear the christian message intertwined so frequently with the republican message, you think all christians are FOR bush.

case in point:

What?

You want your state to decide that where you live, it's required by the government that everyone worship Allah and follow the teachings of the Koran? While one state over believing in any god is punishible by a fine of up to $10,000 and a minimum of one year in jail? While the next state says that you must believe in an inanimate carbon rod as the one true god?

The U.S. founders were pretty damn smart when they said that government had no business mucking around in religion. They knew what they were doing, they'd just come from England with a state enforced religion. They just wanted to be free to believe whatever they wanted to believe, in the way they wanted to believe it. We've managed to stick by that pretty well since then, except for some idiots who think 'seperation of church and state' means that you can't wear a cross necklace if you work a government job. No, 'congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of a religion' is still a very very good idea.

Conservatism claims that the universe is ordered by absolutes. This would certainly make life easier if it was true.

I made a pretty extensive post about this over at the NS forums. Even on secular grounds, I still oppose :P marriage.

So what about us who grew up thinking that we should think for ourselves, then decided to dedicate all of our talents to God? If God is wiser than the both of us, who is the bigger fool? He who opposes Him, or He who follows Him?

that's a pretty big 'if'. i think we decided from the past religious discussions to endeavour to keep religion out of this forum. please.
