I posted about me leaving a while back, but that was just telling you about me leaving for three days, this is a whole month.

So heres the deal.  I'm going to be leaving on the 17 of June and getting back one the 16 of July.  This will be one of the few times in my life where I'll actually please my moms side of the family because I'm going to be doing a hipply, back to nature camp out thing.  I'm going to be camping beach on the Olympic peninsula.  If any of you haven't been out there I strongly suggest you go.  Its one of the most beautiful places you will ever see.  While I'm there I'm going to be  rebuilding a trail by the Ozet ranger station.  I've actually been out there before and man that trail needs work.  I'll be going out with 5 other kids that I've never met before and 2 crew leaders who I also haven't met.

All in all it think it will be really fun, but I'll miss you guys and ns.  Hrm, I guess thats it.  I look froward to seeing all of you when I get back.  So long for now and have a fun summer.

Ah, the Olympic mountains are incredible, I'd like to go out there sometime.  I'm actually going to Olympia with my parents for the 4th of July.  I'll launch a *heart* shaped rocket, tell me if you see it. :D

Have fun getting in touch with your nature side.

EDIT:  Also, watch out for the hobo spiders, my brother's friend got bitten by one and didn't have a very fun camping trip. :o

This is like the first time I've seen someone leave (on forums) for a while that didn't involve:

1) Rehab

2) Missionary Work

3) Being Grounded

Well, camping can be considered rehab depending on your perspective...

I hope we don't do any of that kumbaya stuff.  Although I think if the crew leaders try to make us do that there going to have a mutiny on there hands.  I don't know a single person my age who likes that kind of stuff.

Oh and as a delayed response to Sancho's post (I was about to post it last night, but it got deleted) those hobo spiders look nasty. I'll make sure to stay far away from them.  Also I think I'm going to be fairly far away from Olympia when I'm out there so that rocket needs to go up really high.

Well it sounds more like wussy camping (The kind where you stay in an RV or cabin) then actually outdoor-eat-rocks-and-^^-gold-kill-things-and-eat-them-for-fun-while-standing-in-cold-rain camping :)

U-236 please don't bait me :)

I must not have really described what we are going to do out there.  First were going to hike out three and a half miles to the coast with 30 pound backpacks.   Next were going to set up camp.  Now, I've been out there before and I can assure you that its windy as hell.  Then for the next three weeks I'm going to be tearing up board walk and replacing it with gravel.  If thats not hard core enough for you then wait till I tell you about the weather.

The Northwest coast is most likely the rainiest part of the United States.  For every mile you go inland there is one inch less of rain a year.  Also June is the rainiest summer month.  That means that if were unlucky there going to be a constant downpour for 20 days while we working tearing up said board walk.  If were lucky it will rain for maybe 3 days and be damp for the rest of the time.  That means its going to be hard to start a fire, and when I climb in my sleeping bag at night its going to be damp and cold.   Oh yah, did I mention that because its so far out there the coast guard is going to ferry our food in?

Not to make it sound worse that in is, when you can actually see farther than a mile the coast is a really nice place to be.  Also we will have all the proper equipment do deal with that stuff.  Except for the clothes, I'm only bringing 5 pairs of everything out there.  Yes five pairs of EVERYTHING for an entire month.

I went on a 30 mile backpacking trip with my scout troop, we tackled that in about 2 days, in the ozarks over in arkansas.  I only took the clothes on my back, and washed them thoroughly every other day. (no soap, just a good soaking, wringing, rock thrashing, and cedar-beating)  It kept them really clean, i had the cleanest best smelling clothes by the end of the trip (tehy actually smelled good, like cedar!)  but the upside is i eliminated about 6 lbs.

allso, I should teach you how to make snares, you could skip packing food in alltogether!

last summer i went on a camping trip to poland , right on the south west border of germany and poland , near the mountains for about half a month, it was pretty sweet, one night we had to crawl through this cave where the tunnel leading into it was about 1.5 foot by 2 foot ... tight squeeze .. then had to sleep in a 5' x 5' foot cave and all this other fun stuff :D ... coolest part was on the last 2 days we got play capture the flag with paintball guns through the forests and cliffs, good times :)
