should have alot of vent systems and what not, the hives should be moderatly big, but not really really tall, ("cough" refinery on bast "cough")  no hive should have elevators or ladders that you have to have to get to a phase or siege, its death for an onos, the map should give off the feeling of uneasyness for both teams, low lighting, brush work should look detailed and not vanilla HL like, hallways should have cover for skulks

Marine start should be  pretty large, and open, two ways out, maybe a vent close by, alot of height difference in some arreas to dodge onos stomp, but not to high like the old veil, if  you do want 2 stories, do it like the new hera, with steps and stuff,

and of course have places for gorges to build a base and get sieged!  :D

Quite good - quite good.  But jeez - do we have ANY other takers on helping out yet?  This is never going to get off the ground unless we can get a few more people to help map :(

But like i said - I'd be working on a layour right now if I knew how to do it right.  But since I don't, I'm still gonna wait for someone else to make one.  

Perhaps Sati?  You seem quite good at critiquing and have helped Richmond along greatly.  Pretty pwease?

how bout this the marine start is like one of the space ships from the CO maps like its in a hanger and or like atached from a lil tooby or sumin from the side.  
like were boarding a infested ship to take it out.  that would be cool

I can push along ideas, playtesting, comments, critiqueing, that sort of thing. I've been working with mapping and such for a while now (since early TFC days) although I feel that I lack the necessary artistic element needed to create any map with an interesting environment. Anyways, this knowledge of mapping and how it works helps me suggest how to fix other maps ^_^

or why not have MS in a crashed ship on a cliff, like the cliff in hera but better.

the marine have to roll outta the crashed ship and move into the dark underbellies of the planet station or whatnot... which is just infested with aliens

also i think having a few vents that marines can use without JPs would be nice

this is when i wish i knew a lot more about mapping... :blink:

Seth...the crashed ship on the cliff sounds nice...but so would a vent that leads into space the aliens could get through to go to the ship.... :ph34r: ....

another idea i thought of was a hive that could "NOT" be seiged...

Personally, I prefer the rectangular maps, then center MS are second and lastly are WTF maps...  So odd and confuzling...

Anywho, I like the crashed ship idea, although, I don't know if we want to have a major portion of the map on an alien world. I think it'd work well having a large shaceship (like bast sized) that crashed on an alien world, but the map is all on the ship (maybe a little section here or there on the planet, or exposing the alien landscape).  Having a crashed ship allows for a malfunctioning and destroyed type of look (also, very cool 'problems' with the ship :) ).  You know, flickering lights, half-opening doors, that sort of thing. What would be cool is if we could have an airlock room or a room with a hole in the hull where it'd hurt marines (possibly aliens, although not if they're from the world the ship crashed on, thus why they're there), and the HA would be immune to it, as they obviously have their own oxygen supply since they're unaffected by spores.

I don't know if it's possible to have trigger_hurt only apply to one team. Maybe you could switch it on and off with a trigger_presence, but then what happens when members of both teams are there? And I'm fairly certain there's no way to apply something to normal marines and not to HA.

Also, the trick with lots of natural looking landscape is that it takes a while to map. Like hive infestation, lots of vertex manipulation to get everything right and the you compile and pray that it doesn't explode or leak or something. Nice flat walls are much easier to do, and even if they've got complex angles and details they can be repeated in a pattern, whereas a pattern on rock or grass or infested surface just looks odd.
