well, seeing as how i pretty much can't do anything about the lag...how about fps?
you can start by turning off vsync in opengl for your video card by right clicking the desktop going to properties and then to setting advanced and then click on your video card tab and turn off vsync.  also well there if you want you can change the refresh rate on your monitor.  if you've done all this you can now get over 100 fps, yes even windows xp even though i know someone will say it isn't possible but hey i did all of that and i can

hope this helps Lito and anyone else that wishes to up their fps in game

Turning off vsync, however, will make your graphics look like crap. If you like your screen to jaggy up every time you move and don't mind dealing with lines across it, by all means turn it off. Otherwise you might consider getting a fix for winxp. XP has some stupid built in thing that drops your refresh rate to 60hz whenever you start a game. Ugh.

If you've got an nvidia card, there's a built in fix in the latest drivers, just go into the video properties and the advanced area and look around and you'll find it. For ATI, I forget where it's at, but it's probably in a similar location. Set the fix refresh to whatever your monitor can handle. (I'm not taking responsibility if you try and go over and your monitor explodes) Mine's set to 75hz, so I get a max of 75 fps and it still looks good. Turning off vsync so you can up the fps is just a bad idea, this way works much better.

You learn well young grasshopper.

Try to boost your refresh rate over 60. 60 FPS is awfully hard on your eyes.

Find "RefreshLock" - it locks your refresh rate at a certain level - regardless of what your doing

i always have vsync off, and i have ns running at 16 bit, 1024x840 (i think, i'm too lazy to check) yet i'm getting 20 fps in most areas, and even lower when i'm shooting (hard to track skulks when you're shooting at 10 fps).

I'm running a pentium 3, 1 ghz with nvidia TNT2 16 MB with the latest drivers

that's your problem, it has no video memory and using system memory (or worse, swap space) as video memory
try go to at least 64mb

It's probably the tnt2. Time to admit that the old girl's seen better days. I have a gf4 ti 4200, and I still get fps drops down to 20 or 30 in heavily detailed areas or in heated combat. I'm planning on upgrading even that when I ever get the cash together. NS just isn't your grampa's half life, and it shows in the performance hit on your vid card.

how about virtual memory?

i don't have any plans to buy a new videocard.  In truth, this gaming computer isn't mine, and i have to give it back this year.  As for a replacement, My brother will probably give/sell his to me once he gets a new one, but until then, i'll have to wait until i get lucky, play on my older computer (unlikely), or give up gaming for a while until i get into university, when my dad says he'll probably get me a new computer if I get into Waterloo.

Otherwise, i would have gotten a new video card ages ago.
