Another crazy endgame whackamole phasegate strategy. Thanks to 2_of_8 leaving due to ping issues, I lost the chance to get my second win as commander. Marines just don't listen these days; they couldn't even phase kill one onos.

EDIT: Fixed resolution.

I've thought long and hard about this, and I think I've figured out the optimal PG placement to kill the onos.

Code: [Select]
_______
|O  O
| O
|[][][]

That's one way, with the lines being walls and the circles being the phase gates. The bracket squares can be anything, be it a structure, such as a TF or arms lab, or another wall.

Code: [Select]
 O O
O [] O
  O O

That way, with the square brackets in the center representing a turret factory, the onos that attempts to kill the turret factory in an attempt to stop the numerous turrets sitting in base will have to set the rest of his body on top of a phase gate. That's almost a guaranteed kill.

The best way to kill an onos is put 20 mines within 1 in of each other and he will casualy walk by and lose 680 hp.

Of course that works, but there are a few problems:
1) Costs a LOT of res.
2) Disposable - once he steps on it, it's gone.
3) One gorge can easily destroy it in the blink of an eye.

1) Compared to your phase gate thing?! The second version anyway
2) Have marines there to shoot him. edit: Oh, you meant it only works once. Blah. Well I'm only contradicting you because I'm upset about the 24 comment! :p
3) True. Although if the gorge steps on it instead of spitting or biling, it'll be pretty damn funny

1) Well, it depends on how many of these minefields you're using. A 20-mine field costs 50 res.
3) I would be pissed if the gorge wasted my precious 20 mines.

I had to relocate after monkey left, leaving me with half a team of people who wouldn't build. This was my fallback, hoping that the onos would walk through and get fragged.

You could have just launched an escape pod from that position ;)

To my detractors, by the way: I don't ever command with the intention of turning the game into this. It just happens due to a combination of marines not listening and my lack of a detailed backup plan when the main plan goes awry.
