512MB is fine (I like PC3200 :) ) sure, 1GB is going to be better, but if money is any sort of issue, I wouldn't bother.  Then again...

I'd also say get some more ram; A lot more games are "suggesting" having at least 512 mb to run the game decently, although to run them very well, more is required. It would be less of a hassle to get more ram now than to wait until later to be forced to upgrade it.

Swap that card with a 9800 pro, you'll be glad you did.

Hey Cartman... Wow the south park gang back together again...lol.  I just built a new comp. and on the RAM may I suggest getting 1 gig Corsair's Dual Channel RAM.  That is what I put in mine and it PAWNES.  Also I would have to agree about the RADEON 9800 Pro, or even better the XT.... but thats like $500...     I think your prossesor is a good choice... I have a 3.2 P4 cause I heard that P4's run games real well without having to Overclock, I was skeptical but I can run Doom 3 on Highest graphics with very minimal Skipping.  However a friend of mine has a 64bit AMD and we both ran the 3dmark benchmark and he got like 5000 points higher than me.... I was Pawned.  The best peice of advice I can give you though, is make ABSOLUTLY sure your motherboard, proccessor, etc. fits in your case right.  Don't just check the box to see if it says so, I mean bring a tape measure if you need to.  My case said that my motherboard would fit, however one of the pins didn't align and I had to take a Dremel to the case to cut off a tab that was blocking one of my IDE slots...     Ohh well, works great and looks good now.

Ohh yeah... make sure and get plently of hard drive space for all those Pirated Movies and Music... YARR!!....  >:D

Computer Specs:

3.2 gig P4
1 gig Corsair Dual Channel RAM
PNY Verto GC / geforce FX 5900 SE w/ 128mb DDR
Abit IC7-Max3 motherboard
TDK DVD R/RW
120 GB Western Digital HD
NEC Monitor with Super Bright mode.... great for dark games like Doom

Grand total:  $1700
Sig size too big, 22kb is the max size, yours is 23kb - DHP

Well, Cartman, I'd definitely go for a different video card. If price isn't an option, go for something from the X800 or 6800 series of cards. If you want pretty good performance, try the X600 series or even the X300. nVidia has the 6600 series too, but I don't know if it's out yet.

Or dif you're not open to a different video card get more RAM like some others said.

If you don't get more ram upon purchase, you're going to buy some in the near future because you'll realize that 512 MB is really just taking your box, throwing it outside, smashing it with 2 by 4s while giving it a yuck coating, then urinating on it.

The x600 is crap, its a PCI-X overclocked 9600XT.  Get the 9800 pro, it owns.

Win* is crap.  90% of the WinEthernet, or Winmodem, are nothing more then a simple hardware interface, meaning a) your processor takes more of the load, and B) they dont work under linux :p
I would also say more ram (I run 786mb, and am happy with it).. and pick a diff graphics card :/

I love how you referance a person as a sourse of information :p

Realisticly, the 6800 series are decent cards, they do a pretty stand up job of comparing to the X800's, it is yet to be seen what the 6600's and the X600's will look like in the benchmarks, but I would suspect similar results to the benchmarks of thier father cards.  I tend to like Nvidia's driver support a touch better, but that's not really based on anything...  If your an unbiased buyer, buy an ATI card, just because the NS comunity has a better chance of getting you decent tech support for them than Nvidea cards, but realize, there really isn't that much a difference in the latest generation.
