How is you forgetting your password steam's fault?  You should always remember your password.  Steam ticket errors happen every once and a great while for me, a quick log out and login usually fixes it.

It doesn't have much in the netcode department though, but yeah it's good for the darkness of NS.

I doubt it would run well with 18 marines\aliens running around, all with dynamic lighting and shadows.  If the engine could be suited to pull of real dynamic soft shadows I'd be sold.  Source (and steam for that matter) is the most logical choice.  This way they should be able to somewhat port some of their code, and possibly some of the levels.  Alhough I'd imagine the mappers would just take measurements from the old levels and redo the map in hammer entirely.

Although I've heard the doom3 map editor is heaps better than hammer.  Apparantly its somewhat of a difficult process to get your models\props working in source since the editor isn't unified (ala Unreal engine).

Kungfusquirrel messed around remaking a part of ns_eclipse on the doom3 engine (he also made veil for NS):

yes im poking fun at the ridiculous name. They need to come up with something more creepy. Intelligent Design sounds like a computer type course at my college rather then a ominous game with space marines vs Nano organic creatures.... they better change the creature names too to somrthing more simp

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intelligent_design

---------------------------------------------------

Anyways. it has an awful name.  Not to be a jerk, but its kind of lame to pick a name from recent news headlines.  I'd rather it be some obscure but cool sounding molecular name than ID.

If it was a different name, I'd probably be all for it.

When I play NS it's on the TacticalGamer servers. bs0 (two meanings: no blockscripts, and no bull**** :)), cool people, very very active admins. Awesome reg, too.

2 of 8 is my main man :p.

I'm an admin now over on the tacticalgamer servers.  It really is a good community and the server is *packed* for hours every night and we have great games every night.  Seriously, I had more in just a few nights than in weeks on other servers.

Teamwork is *required* on the server, you must be able to hear the voicecomms and actively participate with the team or you will be kicked.  Not to scare you, but we filter out a lot of the guys that cause nothing but problems on other servers quickly.  The whole motto is to have respect for the other players, teamwork, and maturity.  When you combine all three of these we really have some great games and great regs.  Really, the teamwork and communication part alone is worth a visit.

If any of you guys are interested, come on over and read this thread (and the links within) as it gives the general ethos of what we're about:

http://www.tacticalgamer.com/natural-selec...gns-primer.html

note: if you join the server without signing the primer (our new registration method) you will have a ? mark beside your name and be first on the list to get bumped when players with 5000 points come in.  It's kind of complicated but a very efficient system at keeping regulars on the server when its full.

If you do decide to give it a try and have any questions, go ahead and fire out a PM to me after creating an account on the forums (aeroripper).  If you dont like it, that's okay too, I know we are a fairly unique server and arn't for everyone.  Feel free to send me a PM either way though as I'd love to hear from ya guys.

/end advertising :p

As quarter said, no blockscripts, good reg, classic NS with no gameplay altering plugins.  I saw kodiac yesterday and nooblet today, maybe we'll see some more? :D.

I am searching for that list of win:losses on the server that were recorded for a period of time sometime last year.  I've done many searches but can't seem to find there as they were pretty informative.

You know the one, where aliens one 70% of the time on hera.

Has potential but still has a long way to go.

And for god sakes gets some crosshairs or at least make it like it was in the game.

I thought it was funny we were up to 9 players and kept playing co over and over.  People won't stick around with co after a round or two.

17 sucks... high school, living with your parents... the idiot babel of people incessantly planning out their careers and life after it.

I'd rather be dead then go back to being 17.

As anarki said its pretty relaxing to play with the music\graphics and I can easily spend hours just building a city.

Although this game has some problems in the fps department... but look at their technical support forums at www.bwgame.com to hear all about that stuff ...

I'd be more fun if i could run it better than 15fps max...

EDIT: Also after quitting a level i'm on because the creature is a damn idiot... the AI can be really frustrating sometimes... example: a impressed town was coming to my city then the enemy made a earthquake epic in front of them and they just walked right into the abyss and died... it was pretty sad watching them slowly walk up to it and just fall in.

Depends on how much can be resused and how much needs to be generated from scratch... Rumor over the grapevine is that at least one texture set has been rebuilt already, and some fun new models are halfway through being worked up...

What material has been started on for NS:S? Textures, maps, code?

We've got two player models in varying stages of competition, two sets of textures ported, and our mappers have not been idle, though there is not yet an organized drive in that area. We'll start serious codework once v3.1 is out of the way.

I really like  the "last kill" screen on the RL :D

You can usually get 3 kills if you get 1 with the rocket, then launch your spider mines and they'll take out the other two with maybe a round from machine pistol.

But by that time their probably already hurt from other players

Off Topic / Video games are violent
« on: October 03, 2005, 04:02:51 PM »
heh, i've worked in retail and i've sold violent video games to minors before and i really didn't care.  Why? Because 3\4 of the time the kids are buying it while their mom is buying something else.

Just for kicks one time I sayed they would hafta have their mom to buy GTA:SA (the kid was like 10) and they got their mom and she got all bitchy about me asking for her to buy it for them.  Meanwhile my job says I have to check.

Its absolutely ridiculous and it is NOT my job to be parenting your f'ing kids.  But see when little johnny is having problems in his life and the parents don't know why they see him playing violent video games and then !!! OH MY GOD !!! the games are making him cccraazzy! LAWSUIT
