Off Topic / best game music
« on: October 26, 2005, 07:21:09 AM »
Possibly due to nostalgia, possibly due to I can't remember any other video game music, but the music for Shamus, for the Vic-20, was awesome (it was basically a small loop of Alfred Hitchcock's theme song. Shamus was also the first game I ever beat.

It was a shooter, kinda. Somewhat like Berserker (IIRC).
What's a Vic-20 you say? It was YEARS ahead of it's time, DECADES even!

The computar is in the KEYBOARD!!!! OGM!

One side note. If you want to become a big time manager at some hot shot IT firm, even say, IBM, being an officer in the armed services is a HUGE plus.

« on: October 17, 2005, 09:19:18 AM »
1. Bush has a domestic and foreign responsibilities. Such as, say, appointing the president of an Arabian Horse Association to lead a Federal Emergency Response team.

2. If you are a fan of BIG GOVERNMENT, you must LOVE Bush. Few presidents have bloated the government and created more positions than Bush.

3. Rice should have been coordinating offers from around the world to offer RESCUE services and aid, being she's Secretary of State.

4. All levels of government where incompetent, but to try and say the federal level is without blame is silly.

LIke all things in life, It Depends. I'm basically assuming you want to get into some computer type job thingie.

What do you want to do? What schools are an option? Who's footing the bill?

In general, if you interested in a field in which networking with ppl and the higher social strata really matter (business, politics, hrm, actually, most things are like this), then the Ivy League schools are the best way to go.

If you want to go far into academia and/or want a prestigious job at a super duper place (say,  prof at MIT or scientist at NASA), then a highly rated tech school is the key (Carnegie Mellon, MIT, Waterloo, Penn (i think penn, i might be wrong). In general, a degree from a well respected tech school will get the door open for you for your starting job and many many jobs down the road.

If you just wanna be a working schmuck like myself, a standard state school with a solid CompSci program and a good co-op program (co-op programs are a MUST if you be wanting a job or something craz like that after school).

Just an FYI, i'm a HUUGE firefly fan, not necessarily a whedon fan (buffy etc, not my cup o tea).

In regards to the movie, here's how it went down. Universal, on merit of the show/writing/cast sorta has Joss do some work and perhaps do the initial stages of making a movie. They were a YEAR into the process when the Firefly dvd set sold tons and tons of copies, which basically, I think, tipped the scales from "We're pretty sure we'll make this movie" to "Green light".

I semi-promise!

Some schmucks at someplace called the NY Times is saying this is better than all the SW prequels. Hrm, that's not saying much, but then again, the space opera genre has been sadly missrepresented in theatres as of late.

I'm really curious to see what non-Firefly fanatics think of the movie, as anything I have to say about it is totally suspect.

When they set deadlines they don't meet them, and when they don't set deadlines they fail to keep within timeframes reasonably expected of ostensible professionals or even dedicated amateurs.

Uhm, yeah, ok, getting people to work for FREE on an aging engine with irascible and caustic fans like yourself is no easy task.

And timeframes according to you, on a genre that's barely been touched, on an engine that keeps making them do hacks around it, with modders who have LIVES and need to find WORK.

Very cool, doing the whole trades thing. That's a totally booming field, most of the skilled tradesmen/folks/whatever are retiring soon. Well, I'm pretty sure you'll come back when you realize you can't fit the steam thingies 24/7 :D
