"I personally always try and blame the other team for being so hell-bent on winning."

lol CFM: "Stupid Aliens, why didn't you just keel over and die, we didn't actually want a challenge..."

My personal favorite is, "Hey Cornmander, drop me an HMG." after one minute in the game, and then the subsequent eject vote becuase of lack of adv. armory weapons at minute one.

P.S. I'd use the 'normal' quote feature, except that it isn't working or something... ...ya.

"Toothy" from naturalselection.com forums has posted an amazing and informative article on NS Etiquette for Pub NS servers. Everyone should read this, becuase if you don't follow the rules, the 'pro' NS players will flame you off the server.

Well, I for one don't like dragging out games that are clearly already lost by one side. And by clearly, I mean: Marines having 1 node, aliens - 3 hives, all other nodes, tons of fades/onos, etc. Simple, Marines have no chance for a comeback. I usually expect such games to end with the Aliens just rushing the Marine base within 3-5 minutes after the last major event (failed PG rush, etc).

Actually, one game on Nothing, aliens were stomping the marines, and the comm Officer Conspicous, (one of my buds, and yes he mis-spells conspicous on purpose) handed out jetpacks and shotguns, and unbeknownst to the aliens, they rushed and killed a hive. From there, they proceeded to lock down the hive, and siege Via from Red Room, before we could get enough of a strike force. By the time we did, Via was down from about 5 sieges, and the onos outside got screwed by 4+ JP's with shotties. The game went downhill from there for the marines, and the aliens had no idea what happened. (The alien team didn't suck, as the marines losing showed, so don't jus say it's only becuase the aliens sucked.) As this shows, it the marines hold on and keep trying, the have a chance to win.

This was a classic endgame scenario in the marine base, they killed an Onos in MS, with two left alive elsewhere. The dead Onos gave them a chance to JP rush a hive. They definitely got lucky, but it was still a clean win for the Marines, even after almost getting wasted.

So comeback can happen, that's why it's worth it to keep playing. Besides, endgame is fun if you have big guns  :D .

ya it sux to get slotted, but such is life. everyone gets slotted, i've gotten slotted seven times in one game, going from aliens to marines at different times in the game. Instead of getting pissed about it, it's better to take it in stride, since there's not anything you can do.

all of the wide open space makes it look like marines would dominate aliens before 2nd hive and leap. Even fades would get chewed up before they got to the target...

Off Topic / New Marine 'Upgrade' Proposal
« on: January 11, 2005, 10:31:25 PM »
Wouldn't it be nice as a commander to get those HMG's and HA's RIGHT NOW, instead of waiting a crucial minute and a half while Onos kill your bases and 3rd hive skulks Xeno the crap out of you? Wouldn't everyone like to have as much res as they need RIGHT NOW, and get what they want/need RIGHT NOW? And just think how much your marines will love you if they all get their choice of equipment. Well, now you can do all this and more! The Commander's Intergalactic Credit Union has approved a new upgrade for marine commanders in the field: the 'Commander's Best Friend' VISA credit card! With it, you can buy all those HA's and HMG's and not worry about paying a cent! Until of course, your marines rambo off to the nearest hive and get wasted, leaving you with no better weapons or armor, and debt up the yeist.  Forseeing this problem, the good people at Mastercard have also put out a Commander Friendly Credit Card, and with it, a commander can effortlessly swipe it in the card reader, which by the way, the new ZX1002 Command Consoles have, and pay off his VISA card. Then, with his VISA card, he can buy MORE HA/HMG!! It's like weapons and armor FOR FREE!! By now, the aliens know that they've won, but heck, the rines still think that they have resflow, and the comm thinks that he is the L337est comm ever to live. So when you hear your marines yell at you, "Hey Cornmander, drop me a shirtgun!" you'll be glad to oblige!

LOL Ima gonna try that Elec TF Strat. Although, my favorite elec strat is barring all entrances to MS with multiple elec TF's (worked best in 2.xx when u could stack buildings in each other) so that even fades get charbroiled. That way, LMG's can take out higher life forms as they are already weakened and there's no need for you to "drop me a shirtgun comm!" Besides, your team is so amused with the whole fiasco that they mess themselves laughing....

General / Shotguns
« on: November 24, 2004, 05:34:42 PM »
Basically the only thing that I can think of that EFFECTIVELY stops a shotty rush (even HA/shotty) is one or even two stomping onoses, with umbra support, and skulks biting the frozen shotgunners. But looking at the relative costs AND effort needed to get together a team of onos, umbra-ing lerk and multiple skulks all in one ambush, vs. getting a heavy train to march to one location, it is fairly clear which is easier. (For those who don't see the painfully obvious hinting in there, it's easier to get the marines together.  :p ) I don't know who said that HMG's are better than SG's, but I think they're right and this is one of the situations that shows it most clearly. As far as cost-effectiveness and "bang for your buck," the shotgun still wins and almost any category. I'd still take the "bang for you buck" over actually doing more damage or being a little bit more effective, in other words, the shotgun is overall better, although the HMG is best against life forms.

Basically, the shotgun is so versatile, that there's no reason not to spam it to your team as a counter to almost anything. (I know that many have said this, but why not repeat it one more time?  :D )

General / Any Shotgun Replacement Ideas?
« on: November 06, 2004, 08:28:45 PM »
That's kind've a fun idea actually. I have another flak cannon idea: make it do very little damage, like 3 or 4 per pellet to a skulk for example, and have it fire little metal shards like shotgun pellets. The shards don't do much, but go through the first target it hits, like piercing damage. The bigger the target, the more damage it takes , so it is just as effective against all lifeforms, and must be used en masse to be effective. That way, two good shotties can't fend off a cara fade for hours, but they don't suck.

The double barrel idea was also good, make it do tons of damage up close, pratically nil far away, and have only two shots.
