Off Topic / My first time…

So this is a show I’ve always wanted to go to, and this week my husband surprised me with tickets to a performance of it.  It is a college production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.  Basically all I know about it is that I LOOOOOOOVE the sound track, I have an odd addiction to it – it’s one of those CDs that if I were trapped on an island, I’d want to have it with me.  Yeah, I’m weird.  But I have heard that various performances of it got really involved with audience participation, and if you didn’t quite ‘fit in’ you got pulled up on stage and ridiculed.  I’m not sure what to expect, I’m just uber excited.

Anyways, the point of this post.  I am a very ‘normal’ looking person, and it has crossed my mind that this is the type of thing you dress up (err down?) for – as in goth.  What should I be expecting?  Any apparel / makeup suggestions?  Should I watch the movie first or will the play be pretty self explanatory?

Off Topic / Holiday Plans

I’m sure we’re all going to be busy this next couple of weeks, but I thought I’d post my schedule anyways.

This weekend (Friday the 17 – Sunday the 19) I’ll be in Reno making money

Next weekend, (Thursday the 23rd – Monday the 27th) I’ll be out of town visiting family.

And this past Monday through the 30th my folks are in town so I can only ‘play’ from work or while they’re sleeping!

Just wanted ya’all to know that I’ll be around, just not as active.

Even when the server was UP this is what it looed like.  And it isn't clickable so I can't remove it   :angry:

Off Topic / What Is In A Name?

So, most everyone here always uses the same name.  Why did you choose it, is there any significance behind it?



GrayDuck for me started as a joke, but evolved into a name I truly love.  When I moved from Minnesota to California I was discussing the subtle differences between the two locations, and something that defines a true Minnesotan is the game Duck Duck GRAY Duck (as opposed to the rest of the world’s WRONG game of Duck Duck Goose)…. Stupid gooses  :angry: !  Anyways, hearing that made all of them laugh and they started calling me GrayDuck.  

So now, GrayDuck gives me a sense of ‘home’ as well as pride in some weird way.  Gaming was new to me when I moved here, but now I kind of feel like GrayDuck symbolizes that part of my life as well as home.  I dunno what else to say… it just makes me happy.


PS... sry if this has been done before, I searched and couldn't find anything similar.

Thursday Evening (September, 30)

I go marine (first one on the team) – game starts, and I say “mind if I command” nobody does so I focus on what I’m doing (I have tunnel vision when I command and I didn’t see what else was going on).  All that I KNOW was that Malibu_Stacey was on my team and I was excited because he helps me learn to command.

ANYWAYS, we sucked – I couldn’t keep res, I didn’t pay attention to the teams until I tried asking Stacey something, got no answer and tabbed, he was on aliens.  I asked why he switched and I was told that the teams were stacked before…. Then I looked in the console and saw what was typed

SO, sometime early he left, and redford followed onto aliens.  LOOK AT THE TEAMS!  I wouldn’t bitch if they happened to wind up like this – but an ADMIN did this!  And don’t give me the line “well rines have an extra player” – a good player was stolen from my team and planted on the other team, and mine never stood a chance.

OK, sorry if this is childish to rant like this but it completely ruined my mood.

Be sure to look closely at how the teams are!  Look at scores!!!!!

Off Topic / I’m Worried

Ok, so up until today I was super excited for HL2 to be released.  But this weekend something BAD happened.  I became completely addicted to NS, specifically LM.  It doesn’t matter what time I play, there are always awesome people playing, as well as in IRC.  TV is no fun, sleeping is no fun, all I wanna do is hang out or play!

So here’s where the worried part comes in.  It’s going to be released and you all are going to leave me for it.  Like a drug dealer, you get me hooked and leave me hanging!!!!   PLEASE don’t do that to me, I can’t bear it!  As it sits right now I have this undying love for NS and for you LMers – don’t take that away from me!!!!!!!

Off Topic / Do You Like People Irl

So, something has been bothering me.  I need to know if this is *MY* problem or if others do it too.

I meet someone – right off the bat I don’t like them.  It’s not so much that I HATE them, just don’t know or trust them well enough to give them my ‘stamp of approval’.  Often, the passing of time and shared experiences will make me change my mind.  Other times my ill feelings get stronger.  I’d like to think that I don’t treat new people poorly – I just don’t open up to them easily.

Someone said once:

Always assume new people you meet are assholes.  That way later on you will either be pleasantly surprised, or you can take pleasure in knowing all along.

Ok – so that’s the jest of the quote – I may have botched it.  But it’s something I’ve come to live by.  I get a lot of grief from my husband and friends and they have me thinking that I’m an unwelcoming closed minded person – but I swear, that’s not the case!!!

So, am I a ‘grumpy bitch’ or normal?

General / Respect Your Commander

I don’t want to get the reputation of being a whiner – but I have to voice a complaint about a game I was in today (about 5:10 PST).

Map: Hera
Game starts and no Marine comms.  I had gone off looking for an rt and wound up being one of the last players to die.  As I’m in the death queue one player manages to drop an IP and we start spawning in.  My time comes and STILL there is no commander.  So – I sucked it up (interpret that how you will) and jumped in.

I don’t feel like I did THAT bad given that the aliens had quite a head start over our team.  I managed to make up some ground and get upgrades, etc.  Honestly, we PROBABLY wouldn’t have won – but hey, who knows.  I was starting to get comfortable when some guy (I’m awful with names) starts complaining at me because I’m not dropping him med packs.  My response – Call for them.  If you call and don’t get it right away, call again.  I only know how to space bar to find people who send me signals.  This didn’t satisfy him and he kept ripping on me.  I offered him the chair (I really didn’t want to com anyway, right?)  He accepted it, saying he could do better than me. – He jumped in, dropped a bunch of shotties and mines (and I guess a proto lab) and jumped out.  So basically there was no commander the 2nd half of that game.

Anyways --- here’s my point.  Be nice to new commanders – especially when they are forced into the chair.  Everyone’s gotta learn somehow.  

The rest of my team was ok and respectful but that one guy overshadowed everyone.  It made me not want to command ever again (unless I know everyone on my team).
