Off Topic / Another Way to find fellow players...

Over the last few weeks/months, other games have really stressed our community involvement and activity. Whether it's because of other games sucking us in or the current state of NS, we won't discuss here. What we will discuss here is a way for us to communicate and *gasp*, play online together.


XFire has been around over a year now, so I thought many people should be using it. Although it's not as robust as I'd like it, it is a good way to communicate across multiple games. the feature I like most is the ability to click on a friends icon while they're in game, and you'll join them. Sadly, I have no friends in my list to join. So list your ID's here for Xfire if you want them shared.'

Recently, I've taken a second job that blocks IRC, so I can't chat during the day, and my evenings are swamped, but I've noticed when I am on the IRC channel, forum, and server aren't nearly as populated as before. Taking Gamesurge's ability to screw up 5 times a minute (the Chris Farley of the internet), and other summer duties, where is everyone? Has NS died and LM is following suit? What's going on with everyone.

Well, as most of you know, BF2 demo was released, and it has consumed my time. I tried playing BF1942 when it was released,but my PC couldn't handle it then, and I never gave it another thought. Now, with BF2, I'm really enjoying it. Regardless of the fact the map map is a bit monotonous, hey, I'm an NS player, monotony is life. Well, what do you guys think? What's your favorite soldier type/side/vehicle?


BTW, if I'm online, and NOT in NS, I'll be on the radclan server for BF2 (couldn't resist when I saw rad for a clan). It's actually a good server, no Voice over IP though. FF is on, and smacktards are dealt with well.

Actually, I was thecomm who dropped the Proto in Foreboding... It was just faster.


I find if you build a key building, like upgraded armory, arms lab, or obs, IN the field at an outpost you want to keep, the marines fight a little more vigorously for it. :p

Well, from what I played last night, one team more competent than the other wins outright, but if the skill/competency is equal, aliens are still biased, and even if the aliens are at a slight handicap, perseverence brings a win.


All in all, slightly better, but still alien sided.

only thing I can think is that the WinDVD is using it's decoder for playback, and working wonderfully, and WMP and other apps are using another decoder that is conflicting or not working properly. understand when you buy a PC with a DVD drive, WMP does NOT come with a decoder to play DVD's. You must purchase or download (although I don't know of any free DVD players) a DVD software ot play DVD's. Usually, once WinDVD or otherwise is installed, you can use WMP or WINAMP, or any other software, because it will default to the WinDVD decoder. My recommendation is to uninstyall any codecs/software you have for DVD playback, then install WinDVD again, then use whatever program you want. hope that helps...

Most important asset to a marine commander is competency and map knowledge. Know how to get where I say, and know at what times in the game what to expect. HAving a marine or two constantly pressure nodes, but not lemming-like running to their death is a good plus.

Aero, you're getting better as a comm, but you also need ot let the marines know you plans from the beginning of the game. Lots of times, after the 3-4 minute mark, if we don't have two hive lockdown, I feel you go into reactive mode, responding to aliens more than pressuring them. My experience says wehn you don't know what to do, start killing their nodes.


Marines, you need to do more than follow orders and aim. You also need to be anticipating what nodes aliens have, what hive they're likely to get next, etc. In alot of games marines tell me of an alien presence in an are of the map, then NEVER go back there b/c they consider it hostile territory... Well, go back there and kill whatever's there! Most times it's the chamber gorge, or egging lifeform. Keep trying and don't give up!

I really enjoyed it. My 4 year old waned after 1.5 hours, until he saw vader's mask. Overall, it's the best of the prequels IMO, and pretty doggone good for all they had to cram into one film.

ON the reverse, what movies do you think stayed true?

I think the whole LOTR saga was very well done, even tho some parts were left out and some altered. I think Tolkein would have been pleased.


I'm VERY anxious about Narnia coming out this winter. My two favorite Christian Fiction writers done by the same effects house... great decade so far!

Actually, I was hooked when I saw a MOD expo with NS, PolyFighter, and one other mod. I liked NS and PF, but once I read into NS I was hooked. Back before "kharaa" was coined, or "lerk". It was "Bob", "fatty" and the like. Once the game was released, I had read the manual through and through, and I fell upon [CoFR]. I never played anywhere else. After 2.0, Flayra even took a week's worth of Consti money to keep our server up, b/c he lked it so much. Then, the CoFR clan lost interest, and the playerbase got a little smaller, so HD and I would random pub, and we found LM. He came on board first, and I visited, slotted in 2 weeks, and I was here. I still play today because this is the ONLY game I actively play, and although I'm really not happy about where it is now, I'm not giving up.
