Now all they need to do is program in some shadows and program out some suck.

edit: I should say though that this is the best-looking faux-hdr I've seen yet though. That bit where the light dims on the coastline is spot-on.

General / GRR, my fps is screwed up
« on: April 21, 2005, 07:14:23 AM »
Hmm, my fps dropped a couple of weeks back, too. From a solid 72 (refresh rate max :( ), to an average of 40ish. Keep meaning to fix it, but can never be bothered.

I'll have to try some of these suggestions.

I do miss the epic NS games of yore. I must have played in bunches of 2hr+ games, and at least one 3hr game back around 1.0x. Those were the days.

Sometimes the artist at a studio will do this for you, if they are nice.

If the artist won't do this, find another artist. You don't want anyone making permanent marks on your skin who wouldn't want you to have a chance to see if you really want it.

It came out in the UK about four months ago. As much as I liked the idea, I just couldn't get into it (kind of my reaction to its predecessor, Haegemonia). The difficulty cliff didn't help either ^^

Have you played the CIA mission necro? That's the one that sold me on the first SC.

Hacking is easy, keeping a persona of a nice guy for over a year and then revealing you true angry nature, thats the hard part.

The guy in a CS community I used to play with (Blueyonder UK) who kept everyone up-to-date with all the anti-cheat stuff in the guise of being a helpful chap trying to keep the servers safe turned out to be cheating his arse off. I think that tops HD's business.

You can still have fun on a losing team though - seeing how long you can hold the aliens off, maybe, or being determined to take down a damned onos that's been harassing you. Sure, it's not as fun as romping to victory, but there's usually at least some humour over comms to take the dullness out of it.

Also, if you're finding the game less fun just hold on til it ends and a new one starts. It's less fun for the winning team too if everyone quits, since it kind of robs them of a glorious victory.

General / NS Revival?
« on: March 25, 2005, 08:58:16 AM »
It might be more the case that I started playing NS again because having moved to the US and got broadband I have many more servers available to me, but I think the release of 3.0f was a catalyst for me to really get back into the game. I'd stopped playing back at 2.0 because the only decent UK server I knew (being on 56k I couldn't use foreign servers) went pretty nasty.

There are things about NS now that I really like though - the free upgrades are a great touch, as is the ability to reassign upgrades after evolving (though I sometimes forget to, and die in a hail of embarrassment). I think NS now is much better than the NS I stopped playing over a year ago. If I'd started playing again during the earlier 3.0 beta stages I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have stayed long.

That lunixmonster seems to be free of idiots helps too though. I can't abide muppets on public servers.
