its summer scooter, thats what happens. kids go out and play because they've been cooped up inside for the last 9 months. it's like being born...just gotta go out and do stuff. plus i believe theres several people transitioning to college life right now, so...

WOLF!!!

Just in case you didnt know, this wasnt crying wolf. It's called precautionary measures. The US has obviously been a prime target for terrorists. The british were hit yesterday with no warning (MI5 and scotland yard and british naval intelligence had NO indication that anything was gonna happen) for being our allies. So in cities with highly used mass transit systems, it simply makes sense to raise the warning level. Crying wolf would have been to have raised the warning level if there hadnt been a terrorist attack yesterday. And besides, you dont get more funding just from raising the warning level, or crying wolf as you put it. The only thing you get is beefed up security and wary passengers while its up.

Well, i've been around quite a bit actually. Been playing a lot on fr31ns and lm (usually nighttime eastern), but other than that, i'm teaching summer school classes to retards who managed to somehow fail their freshman american government class. honestly, the teacher for that class during the regular school year plows through half a fifth of jack daniels before class starts at 7:20 am and has the rest finished by lunch time...shes been doing it since i had her for a teacher almost 10 years ago, it takes exactly 6 brain cells to pass her course. its boring and the kids have the collective IQ of an eggplant, but it puts me up for a raise come august...to a whopping $32.5k a year.

on a side note, i wish someone could explain to me why my brother, who is a high school dropout, makes $37k a year being a digital communications dispatcher for the county and only works 20-25 hours a week (full benefits too) and im only making $30k a year working 50+ hours a week, taking work home and having a college degree. what the hell is wrong with our country?

so sue me for being one of those people who doesnt try to act like a completely emotionally-devoid badass. i prefer being human, as it stands.

by the way, the name was derived as an insult to people whining about being killed back in the 1.04 days when i would onos and just mow a whole team down and spawncamp for 20-30 minutes on non-f4 servers. it was originally "CryForMePlzKThxNubs" but i thought that to be a little long.

for one, most officers jobs suck. All paperwork. I have only ever had to write annexes to op orders and I would hate having to write the whole thing all the time.

Secondly, since Ive been in the army I get along better with enlisted folk anyhow. They are more fun, and enlisted folk tend to have their heads up their arses a little less. Plus, with ROTC you have a big commitment after college ends, 4 to six years of ACTIVE duty. Thats every day. Im too insubordinate to take every day army.

well...it IS the army, so I can understand where you'd think the boring officer jobs come in, as well as dealing with assholish officers. however, it's day its kinda a limited perspective.
the average enlistment in the armed services (all brances avreraged) in 1999 (last stats i have from when my mom was CO of Naval Recruiting District SanFran) was 7 years. so the 4 years after graduation from college isnt that bad. plus, you DONT even have to go active duty. you can do 4 years as a RESERVIST! as for the jobs, yeah, being an officer has its share of paperwork. however, only as an officer can you do things like being a tank commander, or pilot, or field artillery commander. you cant be an enlisted doctor or a nurse (well, maybe a CNA or LPN, but there are no enlisted RN's). Only as an officer can you have a command, drive a ship or submarine. Even from a strictly civilian standpoint, these jobs dont look too bad to me, plus you have the gurantee of never having the responsibility of scrubbing the head/latrine/bathroom.
back to the subject though, i think if you looked outside the army, you'd find that the level of character posessed by officers is far higher than what you're used to (especially the marine corps and the navy). as for being more fun than enlisted guys...pray tell, have you ever been carousing with a group of pilots? you're lucky to make it back without a new tattoo, the clap and a need for an immediate liver transplant. for my almost 25 years of experience in and around the military, the army and the airforce are two giant rotating mongolian charlie foxtrots. organizationally haphazard, questionable officer training, super arrogant academy graduates and the idea that they have some moral requirement to thumb their noses at people because theyre in the army or air force. i could go on that subject for hours, but ill just leave it there.
For me, it wasnt even a question. The prospect of finishing college (for free, plus getting paid for it), walking out into an automatic $49k a year job and spending the next 4 years flying multimillion dollar supersonic aircraft seemed like a winner to me over the prospect of going to basic, then A school, then C school, then cleaning heads and doing scutwork over the next couple years to "earn" my GI Bill (which officers get too).
AMF to that idea.

dont get me wrong, I have mad respect for enlisted folks (i've been around the military literally my entire life...parents and grandparents were all career military officers). however, even if you planned on paying for college through the army, why enlist? why not ROTC or one of the academies? i mean seriously...you eliminate basic, being stationed places if youre active duty, no risk of deployment, no drill, nada. just 4 years of school on the governments dime and then youre an officer. I was in NROTC for 3 years (until my knee blew out and they deemed me a medical risk and canned my scholarship) and loved every minute of it. My fiance is in AROTC, getting commissioned 13 May 06. I cant get away from the military and im babbling so i'll shut up now :)

if you think the recipe is flawed, you can take it up with my grandmother who, i repeat, lives in Ballincollig, County Cork, Ireland. Also, Niteowl is correct, from someone who spent 5 years working in restaurants and had a minor in culinary studies, and is looking at an old textbook: "scallions are used as garnish and generally chopped or minced from the upper stalk of green (vertical) onions. If being used in preparation, scallions are best blanched or flash sauteed to keep color. for more full flavor, use the bulb (lower portion) of the green onion, as it is more potent than the stalk."

so heresy, it is not. authentic, it is.

so the question arises, does the welder do more damage at higher weapon levels? Since we know it can be used as a weapon (a crappy one, but still so), its feasible to think that the higher the weapon level, the more damage the welder does.

yes, and usually theyre conducted by a single user. i've been on plenty of different IRC networks for long periods of time and none of them seemed to have this much trouble with it. why is it that gamesurge is the only network that gets hit so frequently?

they keep getting hit by ddos attacks because theyre not smart enough to secure their network. this happens about once every two weeks with gamesurge. back when it was gamesnet, they actually had their act together and netsplits were relatively rare, not like this garbage we have now.

General / See, the comm needs help too.
« on: May 28, 2005, 12:40:37 PM »
A great example of whats being discussed happened last night on bast. Nobody wanted to comm, so i jumped in the chair. Instant loss, right? Wrong. We managed to get a whole bunch of nodes up and upgrades going while putting way too much pressure on one hive. By the time we got heavies, aliens had 3 hives up. Thankfully, the team overcame my horrible commage and took down all 3 hives with me doing nothing more than dropping structures, meds and ammo. Again, to anyone on my team last night, GG. Thats an example of the way rines are supposed to do things.

um...well theres several possibilities. the giraffe has uniquely evolved to be able to reach its food source at the tops of trees, which, through their own genetic evolution, have become taller over the ages. pandas and moose and giraffes are all herbivores, while grizzlies and tigers are omnivorous, having a much more scrutinizing digestive system that will allow them to process various types of intake. pandas have evolved a unique claw on their forepaws that allows them to dig out the center meat of bamboo stalks and other closed-capsule plants.
each animal has its own unique evolutionary quirks involving digestion and eating, so which is it. give it up already :p
EDIT:
you also broke the game code by not labeling which was decaf/regular. thats the point. you have to figure out why the different one is different. not which AND why.

General / Pressure Control
« on: May 26, 2005, 03:28:05 PM »
aero, i wasnt blaming you at all. you cant control the team from the comm chair, nor were you any part of the spawncamping. so dont take it as an affront. you've become quite a good comm and with a proper team, these things dont happen. you just got stuck with some bad eggs that game.
however, having both been in that game, i can tell you that the alien team was dead  with no more than 1 skulk alive at any given time, and not a single bullet hit the hive or any chamber in the hive for 2:39 (i recorded a demo, not specifically of the spawncamping, but of my entire performance that game because im trying to improve my skills a bit). almost three minutes of spawncamping while one rine built a siege and the rest camped...doing nothing to end the game.
so like i said, you hold none of the blame aero. the blame rests on the shoulders of your teammates who completely ignored the rules for their own amusement.
but oh well.
i think we've all got the spawncamping issue figured out by now.
if youre camping a spawn point and actively destroying said point, fine.
if youre camping a spawn point and occasionally hitting the hive by stray bullet fire, you're breaking the rules.
simple.
