General / Is this an old or new strat?

As some of you may know i've been comm'ing a bit lately with a pretty good success rate (i hope i'm not playing against nubs) but anyways, i've found a good way, and I thought i'd share.

Get in that chair and build an armory and scream at everyone to get out of base and get res.  With the wonderful random factor of humans, they will go every which direction while one person will stay in base.

When the first person makes it to a hive and you figure out what hive the aliens are not going for, throw up an RT and TF right next to it.  Elect the RT since it has UBER health.  After this, start building base like normal, and build an IP as needed.  Since this is an early one hive lockdown, you can concentrate all forces without electrification of anything else on the other hive.  Also, I like to get phase tech, and sit that gate right next to the RT so anything will be zapped.  

Also, if I really start to get res flowing, OR if I am not successful in cap'ing the first hive quickly, then i'll throw a TF in base and build everything around an elect'ed RT....  that way my marines can get the heck out of base and my TF will own any skulks that might be so brave to venture in to take some bites.

Crap...    I'd continue but i'm sure you got the point, and I have company.

story time...  (ugh, i know)

if you've played with me on the server, you know i'm generally a good guy, but every once and a while i'll go a little haywire....

where to start...

well...  I have hemophilia (the blood clotting disorder) and through a blood transfusion I contracted hepatitis C.  There is not for sure cure for this nasty virus (although I count my lucky stars I didn't end up with HIV) but there is a treatment that has a 50% remission rate, however....

- it takes a year long

- it has serious physical side effects.

- it can cause SERIOUS mental depression, and mental unknowns

- read up on peg-intron if you want more info

So...  I guess what i'm trying to say, is that if i've offended anyone, i'm sorry.  Right now i'm going through a rough patch with my fiancee becuase of this medicine (think of it as chemotherapy without the radiation).  I just got off the phone with her doing my best to explain that I have no control over what I am saying sometimes, and sometimes what I am saying is NO WHERE near what I mean.

So if i've rubbed you the wrong way, know that i'm 6 months into a treatment that has changed my very personality.  I'm a very easy going guy, as i'm sure many regs on the server can atest to, however, I will be "bad" on occation, and for those who've I've pissed off, i'm really sorry.

Sorry if this sounds sappy, but i'm really down in the dumps so to speak, so I had to let someone know, and since my real life friends are far and few inbetween, and sometimes I spend more time with the regs on LM than I do real life freinds, I thought I would let you guys know.

If you are a christian, pray for me, if you are a buddist, meditate on my well-being, I don't care.  Thanks for any positive energy you can send my way..

General / Brief Console Primer

Aight, check it gang.

See that button next to the 1 key?   No, not the 2 key, but the ~ key.

This is your CONSOLE button.  Say it with me 3 times.

From this nifty little thing, you can do just about anything - actually, when it comes to controlling how the game acts, you CAN do anything.

For instance, bring down the console (the term "bring down" comes from quakeworld becuase the console used to take up half the screen and kinda fall down over your screen slowly) and type

name "C0NS0LE is L337"

note you don't have to use underscores becuase you put your name in quotes.

Now, play with your rate a little bit.  IF YOU ARE HAVING PING TROUBLES, THE CONSOLE IS YOUR BEST FRIEND.

Grab a peice of paper (i know, i hate writing too) and write down the commands associated with better pings, like...

cl_updaterate
cl_rate
rate
cl_cmdrate

there are more, but I don't want to type them out BECUASE (nifty trick ahead)

try this...

with the console down, press the letter c, then press the tab button.

WOW!!!  It autocompletes things for you just like in LUNIX!!!!  (err linux)

for instance, if you were typing cl_updaterate, you could stop at cl_upd and press tab.

next issue.

the console can tell you what your settings are currently at.

in the console, just type

cl_rate

and press enter

It will tell you what it is at.  Nifty eh?

this can ALSO be VERY useful when binding keys.

WHAT IS BINDING KEYS?!?!?!?

Well, say you want your e button to move you forward.  In the console you would type

bind e +forward

In all cases, the + appended to any command indicates that the action you want it to carry out is done so ONLY WHEN you are holding the button down.

If you really want to just walk alot, type +foward in the console and it will walk without you having to press anything!  Not very useful, but good for proving a point.


Now...  if you ever see me in a game, (i know yall love me, so no more knob slobbin offers) and I perhaps say...  "H3Y DOOD, WOT Do U hAVE CHUCKLE BOUND TO???"

You can be the first leet person to (step by step)

1 - bring down the console  (its the ~ key in case you forgot)

2 - remember what key you have chuckle bound to (for this we shall say x)

3 - in the console type bind x

4 - hit enter

5 - tell me what impulse it is bound to.




I hope this has introduced some of you to my best friend in FPS's related in one way or another to quake.  I couldn't live without the console..


OH YA...  if you are in a game, say, and you need the IP of the server you are at....

thats a neat command - it will show you steam_id's, server info (serverinfo used to be a good command, but not anymore) and much more.....



OH YEA....   Another thing


When you are messing with your pings, type the following in the console

net_graph 3

ALWAYS have net_graph 3 on.  It is your best friend.  Trust me and you will see all the nifty stuff like choke ect.

am I the only one bothered when you are really kicking arse (i think I was 25-4) and saved your hive and basically screwed marines only to get slot kicked...

who knows if that was in my reference, but as I just stopped a 3 bacon attempt to rush a hive....

don't pay attension to me - I just like to have a fun game in a fun server and be kicked after I just played a big part in my team winning.

my commanding skills (remember, I just statrted trying a week ago) - if possible give tips - i know i'm not dropping RT's really fast and what not, but I AM speeding up, so just give me time.

Unfortunatly this is not at lunixmonster, but at that one server that only has vets on it.  If it looked like I didn't have control of my marines, it was becuase they did the exact opposite of what I was telling them - ****tards - anyways, its only a meg and a half.

well, in a real game at least - or at least thats what I hope.  I'm hoping the alien team wasn't totally inept, so could one of yall stand up and tell me so I don't feel like a complete looser for "being slow" - SlickHunn  

Heck, i'm getting better - this whole comm thing just takes a lot of practice - for me at least - i'm more of a hired gun rather than a comm.    I'm getting the phase/equip shotguns/drop seige thing down pretty well, and while i still get an arms lab pop up while i'm trying to drop a medpack, i'm getting better!!!!  I think my team had quite a bit to do with it - i've tried to comm some games where people can't use a shotgun, so whats the point right?

anyways...  you've probably wondered where i've been, and if not, YOU ARE AN INSENSITIVE CLOD!!!!!!!!!

Anyways - my motherboard blew up (hopefully that was the only thing) so i've been "migrating" from PC to PC....   First I grabbed my gf's laptop - i thought, P3, rage mobility - it will handle it alright

NOPE

So I figured I was cpu limited...   so I dug through storage and found a celeron 300a and a voodoo3000 (with some pos mobo) and thats what i've had the best luck with.  Sooner or later (probably later) i'll get my mobo back from RMA and i'll be fraggin yall's arses up and down like the good days.....

Its so disapointing for me though....   I beta tested (i'm a constellation member) for so long, and then 2 or 3 days before it gets released, the magic smoke gets let out.

Hopefully it didn't fry my ram (kickass pc 3200 and my 9800XT) or I think i'm just going to take donations because you guys love me so much.  :help:

Aside from that - just wanted to say hi, becuase I don't do the IRC thing, and the only time you'll see me is occationally on a messageboard but mostlikely in game.

I look forward to fraggin it up soon....  and I know some of you are missing my meatwad impression fiercely (and if you aren't, STFU!!    )

anyways, a reserved slot would be really nice - and I know i'm a horrible commander, but i've got a killer aim and I would hope that most people that know me well know i'm a hard-core team player.

cept for when i'm getting sucked off by my imaginary girlfriend named rosie.

I'm sure if you play on LM you know me by now, and i'm not the greatest player, but i've really been in the mood for some organized gaming lately.  

The one thing that I love about NS more than anything else is that pubs are organized becuase people want to win, and if you aren't organized, you can't do so.

But, alas, thats not cuttin it for me, and I'd like some group fun.  So, if you would like me aboard, and you have an ORGANIZED clan (i've been in this game since QW which is '97 so don't invite me to some nub clan cuz i'll know it) give me a hollar!!

General / Regarding A Reserve Slot....

I'm not begging or anything here, so just let me plead my case.

I have a lot of school, and a girlfriend, and basically i'm busy a lot.  I'm sure many of the regs can tell you how much I'm able to play, and basically, whenever I have free time, thats what I do.  I seriously enjoy playing on LM more than any other server, becuase of many things.  Ping, players, map lineup (cept for origin  :ph34r: ) and many other things.

However, a lot of the time, I just want to play a good game of NS with people that are in the same caliber of play that I am in, and its difficult at times.  Which is why I love LM so much....  theres always a good game going on.  But, a lot of the time theres 16/17 people and, obviously I can't join.  I assume this is one of those reserved slots, and MAN, how nice it would be to be able to jump in that spot.

I dunno...  I'll never be on IRC becuase I hate IRC, and i'm not much of a forum poster, but maybe I can get a couple of regulars here to vouch for me so I might procure a reserved slot?

GG to those who were there...   I can definatly understand if you were marine and got frustrated though.  When your team doesn't get to the hives, PGs, TFs, and farms of turrets won't do a bit of good...  I should know - I single cleared furnace and bio maybe around 4 times without a bit of resistance.

Its been a while since I played a game that lasted an hour.  GG!

General / I Was Just Wondering About The Map Rotation

Hey yall, sup and etc

I was just wondering if there is a set map rotation....  The reason being is that I seem to always play origin quite a bit on LM and, frankly, no offense to the creators, but unless the teams are extremely even, the game is long and drawn out, or short and hilarious - usually a shotgun run or alien rush.

So ya...  basicaly i'm just wondering what the map rotation is, and perhaps, bring back some of the old maps that we don't see anymore...  can't remember what they are offhand, becuase I can bearly name maps as it is.
