I'd thought it'd be neat if we just had a thread were if we had a moment in ns, that just made you feel like "daaaaamn.  that was cool." Let it be a combination of sounds, attacks or something else.

Like, for example, Yesterday I was playing on ns with Ness, (ness being key in this story) we were aliens, and sucking it up hardcore type of game for us aliens. So, some guy goes onos and starts attacking MS (1 hive 3 dcs) and they have hmgs/ha.  So, I'm gorge and minding my own business setting up dcs in double vents, I just drop one and then I hear them talking on mic "Ness: Twich, get out of there! *hmg gun fire* Their beaconing *Beacon sirond* Get out of there! *more gun shots, from many players*" And I gotta tell yeah, hearing that while that beacon sound is going off, and a bunch of guns are shooting at I don't know what, was the most awsome thing  Ive heard on mic before, EVER. (ness's mic caught his speakers sound) Then you see twich dead by hmg, and ness's mic I could still hear gunfire. I don't think Ill forget that moment. Thanks ness, you made that game worth playing :-D

Don't think seiging is fun? Can't stand seeing your team win without a fight? Well you've come to the right thread.

I will, for the low price of NOTHING! (which is a bargain compaired to our Something price) Tell you the finest points of how to win, (or loose, depending on how you wish to end) with the most style possible. It will impress any gorge near by! Work's great on dates! Hell, base one for a friend, it makes a great gift!

 The first Strat, Is MY personnal favorite, and a guaranteed win if done properly, yes. You guessed it.

Elect. TF. Strat. (winnable)

Note: There are many ways to do this strat, don't let my reality hinder YOUR imagination!

* First things to build, are an IP, TF, RT, and if your feeling nice, even an ARMORY.
*Elect your first TF, get another RT, you don't need to elect your Rt's until your enemy team begins attacking them.
*Send your marines towards the empty hives. Cap them, and elect them both asap. CRUCIAL STEP TO WINNING!
*If you havnt built an armory yet, Now would be the time. Get an observatory and phase tech, and pg both hives. and Lock them down with a extra tf that is elect.

From there, you can do what ever suits your team, get more rts (suggested) rush the hive. Even build an arms lab and research cat packs! If you are having fade troulbe, drop shotties, and build 2 tfs that are elect next to every node. Even though it my still be killable, most fades will think "Holy ^^, if they can do that to nodes, I'd hate to see they weapon!" *BIG mistake on Mr. Fade's part*


Mine Strat (Not won to date.)

*First, get an IP and ARMORY and RT
*Drop all your res worth of MINES and place them all over the MS. Remember, your trying to reach a "carpet" effect"
*Try to get more RTS and lock down hives

You should not have to build anything more in base except many another IP as all res should go to mining.


PG Strat. (Not won to date.)

*Build IP, ARMORY, OBS. and research phase tech.
*If you don't think its needed for humping, Recycle the ARMORY and get your marines to run around the map randomly
*Dispense PG's equally to a Marine. Remember 1 Marine = 1 PG, if not more!
*Build 2 PG's in a hive.

You Should cap RT's, and have a pg next to each. Don't be stingy on RTs. More RTs = MORE PGs

If you find your self with 2 lock down hives, and a lot of res. Continue to merge this Strat, With the following.

MULTIPLE BASE STRAT (Winnable)

*Build a primary base, and then 2 others in each hive.
*Make sure there is an arms lab/obs. in at least 2 hives each.
*Cap res and hope they dont onos rush you.




These's are the basics of my favorite games. Remember, Don't let this stop you from "winging" it. You May upgrade your strats to contain 2 in one! (elec. Tf + Mine strat). There is a limitless possibility to Crazy strategys. Their best used when the marine team is stacked, and you feel like evening the odds!




How to kill a fade you ask?

Everyone knows Fade < Welders. To the max, first sighting of a fade, drop 20 welders and get your marines to rush wave after wave of men killing the fade with your 1337 welder hacks. Welders also are much more effective at rushing hives then Shotguns!

Mapping / Letter to Valve, for crane hit box add on

So, We (those of us who have been playing cranemap a lot) have though it a good idea that we email valve to maybe add a crane hit box, as it has none. Here's a rough draft, edit it, comment if we should use different words, how it should be sent, etc.


Dear: BLANK SPACE
   There are many of us here in the Lunixmonster community, who have been enjoying Half-Life for a long time, and now we are also enjoying HL2 but we find that there is something lacking in the DM. The Crane model has no hit box, and as I’m sure you know that if there is no hit box a person inside it cannot take damage. We have found that there is quiet a bit of fun in playing maps with cranes in them. The only problem being that the person operating the crane cannot be forcefully taken out. We were wondering if it would be possible, next patch to add a player hit box to the crane, and if not, maybe a trigger for the person inside to be kicked out, so it could be added on with a few extra map entities. We appreciate any and all attention you give to this matter. Thanks in advanced, and keep up the great work.

Anyway, I was just wondering if any of you spotted Gman this time around...

I saw him twice, Once, when he's walking ontop of the sewage type place on that hovercraft thing, when you got the gun upgrade.. And again when your on the beach, and look through the combine bonoculors, to see ihm talking to the people of the resistance...

The second one got me wondering who he actually working for...

Anywhoo, if you spotted him somewhere, just post it here, like, where and when type thing.

k, last night I had a game on hera and we relocated under the elevator in maintenance, we lost needless to say but we did good, had we actually got rts instead of mindless wandering I think we could won, so it gave me an idea.. a list of crazy relocates which no comm in their right mind would use in a seriouse game... and use those relocates and try to win with them. The list ill put down here will grow whenever I get an idea or someone has a good one, I wouldnt put them down on the list if I didnt think they were possible, so here they are.

anywho, I play a few gmes of co_sillyv5 on lm recently, and everyone had a great time, great gunplay, and a sense of teamwork (grenaders first, then shotie ha's to clear the rest!) and fter the round we all run to the silly room to rotate till we vomit. good stuff.

So it got me to want to map again, seeing how my work was sort of appreciated at the time of its release (now sadly, the mvm is long dead *cries*) So now im going to do something different and release a ava map, mind you very buggy and cheaply made. I'm going to post the list of bugs at the bottom. The map itself is taken from the original silly map, basicly put the mvm and ava map together, and you get a horrible ns map :-D
the two teams are aliens, and aliens 02

Bugs:

-Team "aliens" has no hive, and no mod can fix it by switching hives, unless you can somehow heal an enemy hive.

-Huge spawning issues with team "aliens" not going to give details as its a huge exploit, needless to say it will be on ny ava map.

-Team "aliens" special abilities work on and off (I think its just team aliens) it might be both). Sometimes your upgrdes ill work and sometimes they wont.

-If an onos devours another creature with regen, that devoured alien will never die, but infact kept on regenning that said onos, only way out is rejoining the server, simple fix = dont get regen.

-Sometimes the scoreboard gets bugged.


Now all these bugs are because the ava thing itself, you wouldnt be able to fix them without redoing the code. that being said its stuill damn fun.

K, I've seen plenty of "what makes a good comm" thread, loads of em, saying generally the same thing, that's great and all, but some of us dont comm :) (and when we do we generally know were going to loose any, mine strat!) So I was thinking, hey why not make a thread that makes up a good marine?

This can come from possibly a comm's point of view (BUILD THE DAMN PG HOLY CRAP YOU DONT LISTEN *drop*) , or a fellow marines point of view (OMG YOU DIDNT WELD ME!! WTFH4X!? BANT!). So I was just wondering what makes a REALLY good marine, and if so, am I that marine? :-D

Well, after some testing, I have come to the following conclusion, try to stay with me here...

When doing a MvM, teams change around, team 1 as you know stays team 1, and team 2 as you know moves to team 3, now that works out fine and dandy, everyone gets that.

When doing a AVA, teams also change around, team 1 (being a marines based team) changes to team 2, and team 2 changes to team 4 (as I'm guessing team 3 is a marines based team also) now here are the things, since team 1 takes teams 2 place, the following thing happens:

team 's 1 main hive becomes teams 2's main hive, but team 4 wont be able ot hurt it as it's their hive

Team's 2 spawning works fine, it moves to four, but since team 2 is already taken, team 1 has no spawnning abilities, at all.

We have a map co_gar2v2 that sort of works, but it has many bugs,
one being that for some reason abilities will and will not work for some people (xeno, devour, might might not work) I have no clue why it does that,

two, Team one does not have any spawns... at all, so you spawn wherever your spectating, i figured a way to atleast get you to spawn inside the map, (out of RR) but if the team is full you'll be a "rr" unit (as we will just simply call them) in side the map.

There are ways to work around it, and the hives are all screwed up, so im not gonig ot bother release any map for it, if someone wants to make a buggy AVA, just to enjoy the onos devouring onos :-D (always fun) you can go ahead and pm me and Ill try to send what I can to help you with.

Sorry for the bad news, I know a lot of you were looking forward to AVA, hell i was too but from my point of view it's not possible, It still might be, but if it is I cant see the way (im not saying its impossible, because hey people said MVM was impossible ;) )
 
So if anyone wants to try and make a working one anyway gl (my theory is it works a different way then mvm dunno how though)

Mapping / Marines Vs Marines, And It Works.

How to start this off,

I figured out a way to get Marines vs Marines to work on NS, and no it dosn't restart on game start it actually works.

the map itself, is poorlly detailed, but the reason it was made was to show that MVM works, the only problem are the follow:

Team 2's CC, can be hurt by team 2 and 1, meaning you try to weld it, you actually hurt it.

it's a fault in the way I had to do this, It could be, fixed but it would be hard.
