Widescreens usually have problems with games because of the weird ratio.  :(  I'll stick to my 2001FP.  1600x1200 perfection.

anywho.com had it for a while.  Its been on the internet for a LONG time, just its becoming more accessable.  Basically they take a phone book, and enter it into a database, and its MUCH easier to do a reverse lookup (look up phone number, and not name) etc

Let me get this right, you were on the street where your home is, and i assume (hope) that this isn't a major street.  If it is fake, just sit and wait for a jaguar to go by again and take the plate.  But yea, at the very least, you NEED the plate.  Everything else is what they give you.  If you are extra cautious, take the VIN number

Off Topic / STEAM
« on: March 03, 2005, 01:05:41 PM »
Ive had Steam for a while now, and it has been nothing but good to me.  I bought HL2 the night of, and it took less then 30 min to authorize.  When i reformat my computer (which is a lot) all i have to do is copy the gcf files to my server, and then reformat, install steam, and copy them over, and it works.  This takes around 2 minutes of my time (and a long time copying) instead of waiting for it to install from a CD.

It works, but there are a couple of little things that could be added to make it better, such as:
- Ability to Reorder/group games by mod: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/show...threadid=194796
- Ability to save config files globaly: Such that my controls are same wherever i log in.
- Support for 3rd party Mods in Steam Games (auto updates etc that is promised for NS):
could be done such that in the Developer SDK, you press Create A Mod, and you can desginate people on your team who can edit things and apply updates etc.  From this, the Browse Games can list all the mods in development and completed mods that are playable.  Also a link from the Mod homepage to install it (such like Steam://installmod=4893)
- A Better Friends System
- Vac actually working :-p

please give me an e-mail from anyone in your schools IT department so I can laugh at them.

My high schools setup was just about as worse as this one. I graduated last year, and I could still use my name / login at the campus when I went back for a visit last week    >_<

Don't get me started about DSHS's tech stuff.  Keith and I made a website (mostly keith) which was perfect.  Spent hours and hours on it, but they came in and decided to do it by 'professionals' even though it would probably look better that students did it.

Security always lacked.  The default password for an account was your ID number.  Keith and I figured out you could locate the domain server on the network, and view all the accounts, and low and behold, in the information field, you got the ID numbers!  of course, we wanted to report it to get it fixed, but we would be accused of trying to hack the system, and be suspended. So we just sat, and didn't do anything.  If you believe Meizel, we were the first k-12 school on the Internet.  U.S. Congress trusts us more then our own school IT.  (it is sad when...)  (youve heard the story, right tak?)  So many other problems, its mind boggling.  Letting the HS administration deal with Tech stuff is like letting a Polar Bear edit a newspaper.  Not a chance in hell that it will get done right.

« on: January 16, 2005, 01:10:43 PM »
Most gamers HATE mouse acceleration.  The point is because it is counter intuative for where to aim.  You know how much distance you have to move to turn a certain amount, but with mouse acceleration, if you move that distance faster, it will turn MORE.  So your aim could be that much more off. It works really well in desktop settings, but in gaming, has no place

Munch, you don't have any differentiation between which universites steam works in or doesn't in your steampowered post...  Kings university DOESN'T work with steam...

[edit] to clairfy, it doesn't compleatly block steam ports, it just filters them so they run too slow to acctually play on...  It took me 3 hours to verify my HL2 copy over steam from kings (to VERIFY, not to download, I installed via DVD).

From the steampowered forums, near the bottem of the first post.  To make it more clear, i made the titles and states/countries in a larger text.  I added some extra info in the second post of mine.  Thanks for the reply

General / REQUIRED READING FOR PLAYERS
« on: December 01, 2004, 08:53:43 PM »
I agree that some of the things scripting does is out there.  But the 3 jump script is another story.  Someone with Low FPS has a harder time bhoping without it.  I do think that it should be implemented into the game itself, and blockscripts on by default.  People with low end systems suffer, and some can not afford to buy new video cards, or a new computer.  We need all the people we can get in the NS community.  We shouldn't alienate good people because they can't afford new computers.

The pistol script...should go.  The blink swipe scripts, should go.  It does eliminate some of the fun.  I ultimately have more fun on the LM server because Blockscipts is enabled.

thats the reason for teh command, hitting a button and shooting off 5 rounds from your pistol is not a skill, its just dumb. with it off, people complain and cry about people who can auctaly fire 5 pistol shots rapidly and call them a script whore. so i think its better with the command on, it just makes people not able to assume as much.

Sometimes i am in the mood for scripts, and sometimes I am not :-p  I think it has its uses, and LM is one of the best servers that has it enabled.
