I still have the Dark Wheel novella that came with Elite & its box & manuals (yes plural) so I win so there  :p
Some games need manuals, some don't. That is all, move along now.

FPS games totally need manuals.
Select weapon, see enemy, take aim, shoot.
Like XSZ says the training course taught you how to play the game. A manual wouldn't have come close to that.
The last FPS I played was Far Cry & its opening level showed you the basics of the game (not installed Doom 3 yet). I would be surprised to see an action game that didn't have some sort of tutorial to get players accustomed to the game & into the fray a lot quicker.

/me goes looking for HL1 box to see if it had a manual worthy of any mention.

elect every node. farm up every hive you have. farm crawl to the hive.

Ugh, please dont encourage this strat.

If you want to give aliens an easy win always play this strat.
Elec nodes are such a pain for regen fades to kill. Turrent farms in hives are such a pain for regen fades to kill.
(note this is e-satire).

Elec'ing nodes & turrent farming hives only wins in 2 situations.
1 - aliens go Sensory Chambers first & you take both empty hives. Even if you only deny them 1 hive they've generally crippled themselves enough by taking Sensory first.
or
2 - the aliens really suck.
often you will see both cases at the same time in which case have fun & enjoy your win.

sounds like a fun game. and you bring up a good (if often repeated) complaint about the current build. that the fade, and how good/bad he is, is a game decider.

I seriously disagree with that. Because of the way fades are used in the majority of games people seem to think of fades in this way, exactly the same way the Onos was first thought of when 2.0 was all shiny & new.
However NS is a very varied game strategically. There are numerous strategies & tactics that can be applied to all aspects of both teams & I'm not just talking A counters B. The problem is for people to think more & crap their underpants less when something pops up in the game. I've played & commed games where the aliens have had 2 or 3 fades still alive when we took out their hive without needing heavy armour or jetpacks. Likewise I've played games where we've taken out heavy or jetpack PG rushes on hives & then counter-attacked the marine base & won using a team of skulks and gorges with the odd lerk here & there.

As with everything in life, its not the size that matters its how you use it (or so my girlfriend is always telling me  ).

yes, please. But I really do like the idea of multiple handgrenades. The perfect matching adjustment is an early counter, carapace.

which again forces Defence Chambers as first upgrade, something a lot of people want to get away from.

if it kicked in a few months ago I assume it happend with the release of beta 5 which means it is hardware related. Suffice to say not all maps are compiled equal, some have better vis blocking than others. Just adding a simple square block unconnected to anything else on the map can change the vis mapping for the entire map and consequently cause a performance hit which is most noticeable on lower end hardware like on board video chipsets.

It is your on board GPU causing the problem. Even if you don't want to believe it.

Sadface for Squats.
You're a pretty decent guy as far as I've seen (not that my opinion counts for anything around these parts, even Temjin gets more respect than me ffs) and a pretty good player apart from having a slighly annoying name (that whole point man thing, whats up with that?).
You'll be missed & feel free to send me the IP for your new NS crack den er I mean reg server.

People bitch about icon stack already even when its just vet & constie icons (which don't mean a thing but w/e). There will always be whining & the tux's look cool so keep them.

I agree with Clashen too plus the green admin icon is instantly recognisable as its been around since 1.0
I agree with DHP too. The Lightning is a bit o_O Should be more snazzy or jazzy or other words with double z's in them.

Yes Physics is universal but again you're assuming Lerks use aerofoils like every other earth dwelling object that flies to create lift. If they evolved in different circumstances than those on earth then it is concievable that they could have different methods to become airborne other than using aerofoils.

Origin for the win because Cadaver is the man. Although Tanith comes a close second because tommyd is also the man. (re-release ns_delta plzkthnx)

P.S 3.0 beta 5 bast is horrendous.

Problem lies in comparing Lerks to earth dwelling flying things. They could make the Lerk strafe while flying and attribute it to the difference of where the Lerk evolved. They are called Aliens for a reason (unless the backstory turns out to be something horribly camp like the ending for the Star Wars New Jedi Order or the Zerg from Starcraft).

Anyone else find it humourous that the people entrusted to keep the peace on the server are the root of the problem here?

This thread should be entitled "WHEN ADMINS ATTACK" or the ever favourite "Pont".

Like I said in my first post I didn't exactly go "willingly" as you put it. I went before I was pushed and don't try and pretend that wasn't exactly the case.
