General / Strangest strategies.

Nancy - gorge rushed their base. not oc rushed, we spit their whole team down, and then biled their cc to death (7 gorges and a primal lerk = what buildings?)
They had hmgs, but they couldnt stand to 5 gorges primal healspraying and two gorges spitting them to death. (primal focus spit = ow.)  Imagine the surprise on the marines face when thru the door, its not an onos rush, its not fades, ack! its an army of gorges!

I thought about that idea too, but thats a fairly significant marine boost.  Actually not a bad idea though, and probably easier to do/not get whined about.  Anything that makes mines better, i want, cuz i love mines.   Mines mines mines.

Oh, only legal invuln plugin value is .5 seconds. trust me, any more and you can kill a marine while invul, which pisses them off.

Boredom for the post!

Well, my story is kinda-sorta strangish.  For a while i used a different name, or just a random letter, while playing hl or tfc, (those were the days).  And then, CS didnt suck, so i played it for a while.  Well, you know those changeyourname things, someone actually made a clan  called =DS=, where everyone had there name be =DS=Ranger *letter*  Well, me being ten, and being obviously leet and needing a clan, joined.  The leader happen to be bravo, so i took alpha, cuz i was teh alpha ranger with the scout. or something.  Heck, 10-ness ftw.  Then, i decided waiting for the two awp campers to blink and actually discover "hey, im all alone" was annoying, i played DoD and was a regular on the 4th Ranger server, so no one could call me "ranger" cuz then half the server would answer.  (at this time, i was an honorary member of DeLo, which stuck for a while because everyone in DoD called me "delo" and i couldnt change it.)  However, all good things died, and you can only shovel allies for so long on avalance before you get bored [first place with shovel only (everyone else used guns) ]
Then, i played ns. i liked the one server, so my name became [On|E]Ranger alpha[DeLo]  And then people started calling me Ranger instead of delo, so i was allowed to change it.  It was about this time that i decided xenocide was the best upgrade ever, and created a fad clan (10 people put the tag on) of [XenOOO!] (and its original incarnation of [XeNo!!!] or [XeNoO!!], which didnt look cool enough) I left it there, cuz anyone who knew what it meant laughed and it was good.  And hence, [On|E]Ranger alpha[XenOOO!] was born.  And i couldn't add anything else, because that is the hl character limit for names. grr.  So yes, my name is a single tag followed by a bunch of fad names.  And i still like NSPlayaRanger :)

And no, you dont get line breaks. Ha.

The general consensus(spelled so incorrectly) is that the marines are slow in early game, cuz they have to build base, hump armory cuz they need infinity bullets... etc...   Obviously these problems are what need to be attacked.  If marines blast the gorge to bits before he drops the hive because they managed to get a squad there 5 seconds earlier, well, theres is no hive, hence no mc ownage shall occur.  So, how to go about doing this.  My thinking was that the first ip could build instantly, or something.  I only foresee one problem with this, being relocates are slightly faster, but hey, i like relocates.  And anyways, its not like the comm chair doesnt take 45 years to build, you should get a reward.  For all i care, you could even offset it by making comm chair take LONGER to build, i mean. i really want the marines to move out faster, and nothing else.  However, this probably is harder to code than the next solution, which is generally better.

       We could go the other way and just give the marines an ip, i mean, the aliens get a spawn point, the marines should too.  This would be a significant advantage even if the marines were docked 20 res because of the free building.  This change, would fix the "marines are too slow" problem admirably, not really affect balance in any way except "marines move out faster"  which we like, because right now, aliens get this 30-45 second grace period where marines really arent doing anything but running around in base.  Now, early game will involve both marines and aliens, instead of just aliens building stuff and marines sitting there.  I still like my decrease rt hp thing, because those darned rts really need to die better.[/RangarSpamFTW!]

Granted, this free ip should be in a generally decent spot, which, could cause some nasty "Crappy ip placement ftl" spam, but, whatever, the complainers will always complain about something.

Strange would-get-me-shot-on-I&S-idea.  Make meta give less/no energy, preferably no.  Increases fade turnaround time (meaning more than 2 seconds to be at full energy/hp again),  Makes them actually need energy management, like all other aliens (except pre-leap skulks), makes field mcs more needed, because they are sorely lacking a field use for non-gorges, which i believe they should have, cuz it may make them more prevalent.
My hopes: lets fades keep being a killing machine, but they dont have obscene turnaround times, hence, shooting a fade may actually DO something.

I was going to suggest modular GL reloading options, but i realized the coding issues and pre-emptively shot myself down.

That, or make rts(both sides) have 4000 hp, so its worth shooting them as opposed to a hive, because as of now 1 hive = 2.1 res nodes of killing required, and any marine would rather kill a hive than two res nodes.  Marines really can't save their rts anyhow, so this WOULD nerf marines, just not as much.  OR not, this change is basically impossible for me to imagine the implications, which is why i want it.  Anything could happen!

Just yesterday, i was playing hera, i was an onos, and we were killing marine start. i run back to find the missing marine (i hate people who hide)  I walk into processing, and hear *ping* 4 sieges start firing, no phase gate, just sieges.  They got 5 chambers, 4 of which were needed. that sucked.  5 more seconds and there wouldnt have been a hive to save.  Goes to show, camping marine start doesnt always work. they sometimes slip right past.  Then again, we only had 2 scs (we were all fades and onos, how could we drop chambers, lol)  Phase gates are noisy, sometimes its better not to build them...

Not half bad. Even if it's only 400/per, that's still 7680... leaving a meager 320 HP.

i believe grenades are 220/per.  i know a grenade doesnt kill a cara skulk, and does double damage to buildings.  hence, the grenade does less than 130 damage.
Hmgs shouldnt even shoot the hive. they do half damage to buildings.  1 hmg clip = 1250 damage.
Of course, this is weapons 0.  Weapons 3 greandes do about around 290 damage.

Hives have 10000 hp, and i THINK heal 100 hp a click.

However, i agree combined arms.  Marines will all hmgs, all shotguns, or all gls suck.  Marines with gls, hmgs, and shotguns are a wrecking crew.

shotguns = shoot anything nearby
hmgs = shoot anything that moves especially fades/onoses.
gls = shoot anything that doesnt move, and large groups of skulks.

Ya. marines need a way to kill hives being healed by gorges. i daresay let sieges damage gorges healing the building under attack.  The biggest problem in my opinion is the fact that they fixed the phase gate bug that let 201421 people go thru at once.   Only one other thing i want. i want catpacks to cost two.  Wasting time on the arms lab should be darned well worth it.

(then again. story time.
My brothers (the uberlerk, you never see him, hes probably better than quarter, but they are both so good that distinction is silly)
His comm strat, which worked well:
1: Arms lab A1, obs, pg, catpacks, w1
2: put a phase gate near an alien hive.
3: drop all but 30 res in shotguns.
4: tell marines to get 8 bullets from the armory
5: rush hive with catpacks
6: i beleive the numbers were 6 marines, 4 shotguns, weapons 1, hive down in 15(or 13) seconds.
Keep in mind, catpacks cost 4 res then.  I really want to see this on LM, where people are better shots.

No one ever believes me when i say catpacks > onos, skulks, gorges.

Marines really need to practice the alien tactic of destroying upgrade buildings. i mean. that chamber, when destroyed, costs them a lot of effort to rebuild.  If you have 2 marines outside the hive, with no hope of a phase gate, tell them to rush in and kill as many chambers as they can. with free upgrades for skulks, id equate one chamber to be worth 1/2 of an arms lab.

For me personally, if 4 medpacks wont save me, 5000 medpacks wont save me.  so save the res :)  I'd be a good comm if i ever remember to give wp/upgrades to my poor marines...  That, and too many people have me muted.  I blame that... ;P
I try to make my marines go in forces of 2 with waypoints, and reward people who listen with guns/ammo/medpacks/jetpacks (especially jetpacks, i dont hand those out randomly till i have enuf for everyone.  I hope that the players eventually figure out listening = jetpack)

i usually try to drop an mc in the hive that will eventually get built when i build chambers.  But yes, field mcs are great for gorges, they make spit machineguns!
what i hate, is when a gorge is sitting under the hive, watching the marines do stuff, and NOT spitting the hive.
