General / Marine vs Alien wins

Well, that may be true. If it's still lopsided in a few weeks time, I'd say the marines would need some other boost to reduce dependancy on the obs to win.

I love it. Love it love it love it. I'm a big alien player, does it show? I think the marines just had it too cushy, and have gotten lazy.

In my opinion, old marines just had to follow waypoints, blast anything that moves, and build phase gates. Then take a nap while their base kills the enemy base and  enemy players for them.

My only problem is still the observatory. I mean cmon, how many games have rines ever won WITHOUT an observatory? The obs's abilities are pretty much required just to survive this new game. A game without an obs is an easy alien win. I think it's become too central to the marine game, and I'd like it set back a little bit (just a LITTLE bit).

Nevermind, it's done being retarded.

My buddy put the comp on wireless because he fried his LAN card. He installed a fresh one today, so we're all good again.

So somehow my friend managed to unplug and re-plug in his computer about 3 times rapidly while vacuuming his room.

Then the internet borked.

He fixed that. But now when I play NS, after about a minute or two, I lag out and get kicked with an error message that reads:

"reliable channel overflowed"

Any hints on what's been misconfigured over here?

I personally like this one...  Jump in the chair, get ejected within 1 minute, all marines jump in pit of death.

Haha! I think I might have been on the alien team that game ^__^

90% of the strats I've seen involve early Motion Tracking, and then casual ninja-SG rushing of hives.

Damn that observatory! Damn it to HECK!

I like the 'activated' phase gate idea. Anti marine, no more randomly phasing all over the map for your entire team. Pro marine, no more phase time wasted at the wrong phase when you need your entire team somewhere pronto.

Most of the 'overpowering' things in my opinion come from the Observatory. I mean 'cmon: Motion Tracking, Phase Tech, Scan, and Beacon, not to mention auto-detection of enemy structures and auto-decloaking in it's radius?

Maybe an increase in Obs price, build time (and corresponding upg to HP), or just the individual powers that need tweaking.

I'll second that. A big issue with MT is time; build an obs, research it. Bam. Easily rushable.

If it were a series of upgrades, "level 3" MT would hit at a much more managable stage of the game.

Lots of alien buffs, which I'm definatley enjoying. Free upgrades, free regen, and the flashlight are the headliners for this patch if you ask me.

The flashlight is friggin awesome. I took advanced hive sight so many times, and this new global incarnation rules.

What free upgrades REALLY means is skulks will actually get them! I mean honestly, nobody really upgrades skulks, but now I get them every single life. The difference is more than noticable (SoF/Cara/Silence=laffs). And it might just be me, but the upgrade gestation time seems faster.

I still have a problem with the observatory in general, but whatever. Mostley good!

I'm sorry, I don't see Carapace and a prayer as being the counter to Motion Tracking. Motion Tracking results in marines ambushing skulks! You know where he is, if he has any backup, and generally where he's going. Aim at the blip, fire when it comes around the corner.

If the marine is parasited, it's a little better. But then again, whenever I get para'd, I usually bait myself for 2 or 3 buddies.

Mainly, the probolem is that the marines can get MT in almost any situation, and then it works for free, for the entire team, for the rest of the game (barring obs takedowns).

The only real counter is Sensory chambers, and god forbid you have a chamber slot left for those.

On that note, I'm also a supporter of the unchained chambers idea. That way, when they get MT, you could drop sensories to *gasp* COUNTER marine tech! As it is, you can only do it if you 'sacrifice' a chamber slot for the all important hives.

I think I'll just content myself with hitting refresh every 20 seconds while I stare at the changelog and weep a little bit.

My only huge problem is Motion Tracking.

From my understanding, skulk's main power is the ambush attack. I mean, skulk vs. marine in any flat competition, the marine will win 90% of the time before the skulk gets within 10 feet. Skulks have to wait, listen, and hamstring them before they can get a shot off when they walk by/underneath.

In my opinion, not only does MT wall hack the entire map for all your players, it totally nullifies skulks. In any kind of competitive game, how many skulk kills will you get after MT hits the table? You're basically forced to either evolve into an expensive lifeform, or tag along with one.

I'd compare it to an alien chamber that causes every LMG on the map to jam ;p

My favorite fix I heard, aside from completely removing MT altogether, was that it only funcitons within 'range' of an obs. It just gives the marines insane confidance, totatally removing the fear or worry of being suprised alone. I think it just encourages rambo'ing all the more for that reason.

EDIT! And my other idea... why not have some structures require more than one player to build? Eh? EH? 2 marines required to build a phase gate? 2 marines for proto etc?

I've played NS as Scuzball and for the last three or four months, Hesitation. I'm pretty sure I'm sticking with this one, though. Sometimes I just play on my friend's accounts because I'm at their house, but that's negligable.

I mostley play on LM, Dihydromonoxide, and a few OldF servers. Um, I hate mod's. I hate combat, and especially lvl 10+ combat. And I don't have much fun on custom maps, especially those damn seige maps.

Some of the best posts on the internet contain nothing but pics! Also, I tend to  ignore stickied threads by habit. I earned myself a good *facepalm* here

Back to ninja skulking!

Well, I've been playing on LM on and off under different accounts for jeez, as long as I can remember playing NS. LM has always been that server on the Favorites list that I always jump on. You know, one of those "Aww, it's full/I got kicked? Now I guess I have to go listen to the pubbers yell at eachother and get lost on ns_mineshaft" kind of things.

I said to myself, "Self," I said, "Why did you never, ever signed up on the forums?" "Well" I responded, "I really don't know." I figure I owe it to the forum whore in me to say hello!

What else? I'm 20 years old, recently moved to Santa Cruz CA. I love me some NS... seriously looove me some NS. I had to uninstall it so I could get work done, and more than a few times! But I always come back to my golden baby. Damn, that game is GOOD. So addicting! So satisfying! No computer game as of yet has been able to compare.

This computer here isn't mine. It's my roomies and long time friend's. And my god can it savage Halflife. I've been playing NS for years on a 16 meg onboard video card. Feel my pain! Now I can actually SEE, I can actually AIM... I don't know how I lived without (or rather, I know how I died without)!

I'm also a board game freak on the side. I saw a Settlers topic down a bit, and so I know at least someone can sympathize. War of the Ring, Puerto Rico, Game of Thrones, and most recently Twilight Imperium 3rd Ed. (with a few choice houserulings). Yes, I'm a bit of a FFG whore, but my next aquisition is shaping up to be Power Grid, which I've heard good things about. A little beer & pretzel Zombies!!! action too!

I'm getting a job on a commercial salmon boat, but till then I have way too much free time. I'm a regular internet addict, so I'm sure I'll be seeing you all around for the forseeable future!
