been playing wow and doing school mostly, miss you guys and ns maybe i'll come back for tf2 or start idling on irc again(idk why i stopped to begin with)

hows the progress on any possible ns source anyway? i can't really check at school since so much crap is blocked =/ cant get on irc either the proxy doesn't want to work with it, crying about ssl and ports for whatever reason

before 8 eastern on tues/wed, wow raiding days usually. usually free after 11ish on those days ideally :3 but most of the time i'm free so ill show up if i can, just need to know teh time

im guessing post-6pm est for a good playing time for most? imo just give a general time area you can play so we can see where the best mix lies o_O maybe a weekend night or something?

I got a question, is it possible to have a random name generator on the spawned units? have them stay the same unit, just randomize the name each time they spawn? We could put in all our RSers that way.....

yes, by making them perma level1 "heroes", disable their xp gain eventually though, it'll be like "bacon_flaps II" and such. couldnt see any way to do it other than that =/

It may hurt preformance, but its not something that you are going to notice.  Even at that speed, the ram is still significantly faster the the HDD, or CD drive.   Most ram is backwards compatible, so if you had some in your old computer, chances are it will work in the new one.

the ram isn't what does that, its the chipset. so if the chipset supports different speeds, it will automatically run at what the slowest is, but you wont really notice i guess, not sure on the difference in the PC values either, may or may not work. just check the pin colors and make they're the same(such as gold), on both ram+mobo

Okay so I've bought a new PC and it seems to have Two 256 MB 400 MHZ dual channel Pc3200 DDR memory.

The salesman sold me a 512 MB non dual channel 333 MHZ PC2700 stick, and said it'll work fine!!

Will I degrade my system using this?

Fan arrived today. Just one question stands in my way of replacing a crappy fan: how do I remove the old heatsink-fan combo from the card? It's push-pinned in, same number of pins as the new one (checked before I ordered it).

Oh, and the fan came with some white gel. Not sure what it's for - my last gpu didn't even have a fan.

i think the gel goes between the fan and the chip it rests on. as for removing it, check the manufacturers website for help, probably find something on their forums/support section easily

Friends don't let friends use an MX card, much less give them one. I suggest stabbing aforementioned friend with a screwdriver until they are no longer your friend. Then buy a new GPU.

It should run ok without the active fan, expecially if you have other stuff blowing into that area.  However, if your video card starts complaining, expecially into a long game (unexplained frame loss or glitchyness) turn off the game and give it a rest for a while.  While it isn't in use it doesn't produce much heat at all.

swift is indeed correct, i'd suggest reviewing power saving features(ie suspend) or just power off when not using the computer don't leave the case open or anything, i assume its agp, but if not try to position it in a good airflow spot. if it is agp, attempt to move any wires around it away so it can get better flow onto it best you can do for now really

do you have access to any other computers you can test your components on? that'll be very helpful

can also try taking everything off(all cards,drives, etc, just boot w/ mobo/proc and fans) and try to locate what is making the noise.

once you find the fan that seems to be the source of the noise, unplug the power to it and turn computer on. no noise, try replacing the fan with another(if you have, can be one from somewhere else if the power cords are the same), or plug it into a different power spot to see if it makes the same noises, etc

if its the proc/vid card fans then you can try to take them off and look for something that could be causing the problem.

im doubting its the power supply, that would be causing other issues, not noise from fans. faulty fan or something hitting against it.

it seems it may be the fan itself, just try switching the fan out if possible, or check all the wires to make sure they're fully plugged in(goes for any problem you ever have)

p2p doesn't instantly mean you're stealing copyrighted files =\ most often they're mislabed things, cant really tell until you open it. <forest gump chocolate reference here>

ediT: point of this thread btw, is that i hate how people look at the internet and all they see is piracy. what of the games? what of the actual information? what of the ability to speak to others so far away? so many good parts, dissapointing to see the focus on the set of people who decided to upload copyrighted stuff
