Title: Neverwinter Nights
Post by: alius on January 28, 2004, 08:55:21 PM
I just picked up Hordes of the Underdark but I never finished either the first campaign or SoU. Anyone else here play it? I'm just wondering if anyone is interested in playing all the way through from at least SoU, I'll be the Druid.

Hated NWN, thought it was crap. It looked and played like a PS2 game, the campaign sucked (I never actually finished it, it was so bad... 'solve the mystery of the plague'. Screw that, unless you give me a REASON to solve it (AKA Sarevok kills your foster father, you wake in a mysterious jail with experiments being performed on you in BG1 and BG2), it's just lowgrade cliche. In BG1 and BG2 I WANTED to finish the story. In NWN I was apalled that they actually thought they could sucker me with such a weak plot, realistically I'd rather have just left the damn city.

Plus I hated the third edition rules. Let's give everyone some form of another class's skills! Yeah!

I had some fun with Neverwinter at a friend's house. I'm usually rather entertained by games that have some good online stuff, so I was goin along RPing for a while.

Yeah uranium, what I played of SoU was much better then the original. But I still enjoy it, to each his own.

Any chance you would like to pick up SoU or HOTU and join me in a game if we can get a few others?

I'm sorta the new guy here, although I was a reg a couple months back (TK-421 in game), but I have HotU and I'd play through the campaigns or some mods if you got a bunch of guys together.  I'll do anything, although I prefer Ranger or Rogue.  I'm a D&D newb, so I don't have the skills to figure out much besides pure combat, hehe.

Also, I dunno if you guys are into this stuff, but there's a pretty nice permanent world set up called Exaria.  If you go to exaria.net, there's a whole slew of subraces, special mods, etc.  It's pretty heavy on the RP and takes a long time to level though, so if you're not into it it's probably not worth getting into.

I uninstalled NWN, but I would be willing to play through some custom mods, like Penultima(which ruled)

If you've updated to the latest patch, SoU/HotU is not required if your playing with SoU/HotU players.  If I remember correctly.

All the feats/classes/skills exist, just aren't usable.  Doesn't take much to add new feats and such.

I have all three, not sure if my campus firewall will let me play to a location off-campus.

Still interested in playing? I don't have HotU but I would like to play. I've played through SoU singleplayer three times now, its fun but short, and the last boss is a joke.

I've just got the basic, original NWN. I've had trouble trying to play games with people who have later expansions installed, so I may not be able to join in now that I think of it.

You can play with anyone with any other expansion, as long as everyone's patched up and you're not playing a module built with the new expansions' toolsets.  So you can play any module built prior to SoU, the only difference will be that everyone else will have access to prestige classes and such that you won't.  Of course, the caveat is that you'll be hard pressed to find a newer module built without at least SoU, if not HotU, but there are decent older modules.  I can't imagine wanting to play through the original scenario, though, hehe.

One other option for everyone are PWs, which are sort of like Medium-MORPGs.  The problem with that is that nearly every one of them require both expansions at this point.

At my neighboring Best Buy they had the complete set, expansions and all for $40, it may have been some kind of sale though.

But I am gonna wait and get BF Vietnam anyway.
