Title: Team Fortress 2
Post by: Niteowl on September 19, 2007, 01:59:05 PM
So who's played it? Is LB considering making a server for it (ironically, there are no linux server binaries, yet)?

IT's a pretty awesome game, all teamworky, no spam, no crazy Medic winning the entire fricking game because he spent 5 hours on a lan server perfecting a conc jump. Not that there is anything wrong with that, just that I don't play those sorts of games.

You totally need teamwork and communication, and really really need to work in teams *gasp*, much more than in TFC or FF.

Thoughts? :D

I played it, I like it, just seems the team with the most helpful medic is death though. I enjoy it, I also enjoy FF though, Either is good I think

Yeah, medics are pretty badass. I've seen people who are just plain good with them and can kill people not to mention heal like crazy. So far I've mostly played the soldier and pyro. I like the spy a lot, but it doesn't run smooth enough to bother trying getting backstabs. I think I'm gonna spring for another gig of RAM.

I really have NO idea who ppl play this game with FF on. The only way to reliable tell if someone si a spy is to shoot them till they should die, or until they shoot back. There is NO BLOOD spatter when someone is a spy... So.. on a friendly fire server?! *shrug*

I think the name comes up as your own... but that might be FF

Spies when they're disguised are randomly assigned a name (I think it's random every time, but I'm not sure). So if you're lucky, you'll run into one that took your name.

I was pretty sure that you could see blood from spies, but maybe not. Either way, you can tell if they freak out because they are taking damage.

They take the name of someone who is the class they are disguised as. If the team has none of the class then it's completely random (and the spy is an idiot).

Owl: With FF on you have to detect them by seeing improper behavior, which is how I do so most of the time anyway. Also, if it's still the same spies and scouts should be able to remove their disguise, and I think one of the two can see them when cloaked.

Yeah, scouts can't detect spies anymore. Spies no longer bleed when shot. You basically have to shoot everyone until they should die.

Alternatively, be smart about it.
I've found dozens of spies just by simply watching what my "teammates" are doing. Look for odd behavior Running into battle with melee weapons out, running around parts of the map where there is no fighting (locked nodes for example) being in the wrong place (Sniper running to the front line) or even just moving oddly (Slow scouts, fast heavies) or say, an engineer having the name of someone playing a soldier.
I rarely find myself shooting legitimate teammates :)

Er, spies only show up as friendlies with their PRIMARY weapon, their model doesn't switch weapons to a melee weapon. How many FRIENDLIES HAVE YOU KILLED IN YOUR ZEAL ANEM?!!?

Rule of thumb, annoying retreating deserves a few shots. :D

On that note, is FF usually on in most servers? or off?

Well, they took FF out of the game, so that isn't an issue anymore. Blast away.
