hmmmm, another source mod to wait a few years for :p  Looks like it could be interesting though.  Am I to assume Zunni ditched NS for this?  That's funny on a couple levels for me (and doesn't look promising for the future of NS if even HE jumped ship!)

I dont have any evidence of this, but my assumption when i saw this site last week was that Zunni and crew mustve gotten sick of UW being basically out of the loop on their own products, so they decided to just go make ns themselves... but as NS and stuff is UW copyright, they called it ID and changed the skulk to mr leapie etc etc.

Yea but so is Natural Selection. The weak don't get eliminated, (which is, in essence, what the original idea stood for) - focus cloaker nubs are alive as evar :)


@ID: should be interesting to see a game that has all the bad parts of NS taken out.

Natural Selection flows more smoothly out of the mouth than "intelligent design." Change Intelligent Design to Creative Design and it works a little better, but can still be improved. Yeah, phonetics, I'm hooked on phonics. Intelligent sounds too smart, whoever thought up Intelligent for smartness was a bright fellow indeed.

Well, "Quake" is quite a weird name too.  Anyway, I don't hold anything against it apart from what I already associate with the name: The quasi-scientific claims of ID (not the game), which gives me the shivers.

yes im poking fun at the ridiculous name. They need to come up with something more creepy. Intelligent Design sounds like a computer type course at my college rather then a ominous game with space marines vs Nano organic creatures.... they better change the creature names too to somrthing more simple

Anywho, Zunni's been off the team for months and months now.

This probably won't be as good as NS for several reasons.  The biggest being that it'll be compared to NS no matter what the official dev stance is.  Half of the charm of NS was that most of us had never seen anything like it before.  

Anywho, I'll play it but the whole thing seems way too impulsive to turn out alright.  Hope they prove me wrong.

It's going to be compared to NS, that's a bad thing as people are going to suggest plagiarism or "loving tribute".

I appreciate comments like this..

I understand how it must appear to people from outside, but if you stop and think about it many of the upcoming mods and recent games (EmpiresMod, Nuclear Dawn, even Insects Infestation and Caliber in some ways) are combinations FPS/RTS. You can trace large chunks of that lineage to NS as well.

Our goals are to provide an experience that expands on what people really liked about 1.04, long epic battles that you really felt a part of. Allowing a teams strategy to shine along with individual skill. Yes, some of the basics are the same, but our implementation will include things they haven't done with NS..

Just wanted to drop a quick note in and say "hi" and "someone showed me this" :)

it isn't so much the idea..but the work involved. HL2 by far is not an easy engine to mod and takes a long time to get anything reasonable to be released. You might want to take a read through the dev journal post by one of the Fortress Forever guys to see what I mean.

Yeah, we aren't dead yet.. In fact as soon as the site goes back up, I have a piece of concept art that may turn into our scout class (with a few small edits). So this is killing me more than you know :)

Insects will be nice to see, as will ID, but the cynic in me tells me these projects will vanish.

I remember Brains, and Zombie Panic, they didnt last long enough.


Besides, in 2 months time we're all going to be playing Quake Wars, so something stellar is going to NEED to happen to keep HL2 ticking along as a viable community, imho.

lolfighter, its full title is.. Quake Wars: Enemy Territory, ie. it's the spiritual sequal to Enemy Territory for Return to Castle Wolfenstein, but now set in the Quake universe. Afaik it takes place during the strogg invasion of earth.

Hey guys I was thinking of making a business management mod called "Social Darwinism" and your goal is to become basically Rockefeller, through abuse of the inherent weakness of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act, and loopholes in other laws.

Anyways. it has an awful name.  Not to be a jerk, but its kind of lame to pick a name from recent news headlines.  I'd rather it be some obscure but cool sounding molecular name than ID.

If it was a different name, I'd probably be all for it.
