Title: So who's left?
Post by: Diablus on December 18, 2005, 10:33:43 PM: Well its quite obvious now that NS is on the verge, or already *dead* in a sense, the css server is only filled with bots and forum replies and topics are beginning to get less and less responses.

So I make this now to ask the question : What now?
and to see who else still actually is alive out there :( I know real life basically took over most of our time including mine so its understandable. Im just hoping one day the LM community could become active again, those were fun times.

By dead I mean in the same sense that every mod dies - as in too few players to matter(gloom, TS, S&I, the list goes on forever).

The past couple weeks though I've been playing Albatross18 (http://www.albatross18.com/index.asp) here and there for a out-of-the-ordinary diversion. It's like fantasy golf rpg or something. Gain levels and cash as you play to get better stuffs. :p (It's another korean game moving to english/international, so if you don't like that korean/anime/cutesy type of game don't bother)
Oh and it's free, they make their money buy making certain items only purchasable via real money. (Just left beta last week too)

...enough rambling about a game you all will probably not care about. :p

Also been playing a lot of WC3 again (Stormreaver) and WC3: TFT (DotA... I'm actually in a team on the CAL WC3: DotA League. We're currently 2nd in our division and 19th overall (Yes, very sad, I know.. :( )

When I came back I had hardly any motivation to play, or do much anything involving NS, and had pretty much been sucked into WOW. I got bored of WOW just in time to see Flayra completely finish destroying the game I once loved, and I could hardly bear to tolerate it anymore, so I never came back. Sorry for dishing out like that :D In the meantime, I'm joining the Air Force, etc. etc. nothing really exciting besides.

Anyway, I came back here looking for some old pictures I had hosted here (the ones where I was stabbing myself in respose to the stupid-ass threads :p) and thought I'd say hi / bye.

Anyway, I had a great time with everyone when they were all active. Some happy memories came from here, and I'm proud to have served as your server and forum tyrant for those months when this place was hoppin'.

If you're still looking around, I've been basically sucked into the Dystopia (HL2 mod) community as of late, as have a LOT of ex-NS players, and I regularly prowl their forums there. Hell, maybe when they finally release a full version (or rather, 'more' full) LM could migrate there? Who the hell knows?

Anyway... yeah... and stuff.

Every class has one, the light's is proably the worse though. 2 fully charged shots can drop a heavy, and the ****ing things can just cloak around all over the place and beat you to every possible hidden alcove. It's really annoying.

That was fun, although I know good people would be all "LOL UR DED" but everyone on my team was retarded so it balanced out. Good game, but needs a lot of work as you so carefully pointed out, don't forget that overpowered units can be fun too.

Mainly I play WoW every night, and watch a few movies. I try to join up on CS:S and zombie servers, but to no avail.

I really miss NS, but more for the LM community and the fun we had. Sadly, though, I don't see any other mods/games on the horizon to fill the void.

I still lurk, and hit IRC from time to time, so PM me if you'd like to meet up.

It basicly doesn't happen in pubs. The only time I've ever seen it was in a scrim, and we didn't even get to the door, we just kept getting owned by snipers as we tried to get out of the punk base, they all hid up on the roofs and stuff so you needed termal to even shoot at them when they weren't even cloaked. It's really frigging annoying to be a rocket heavy and get killed by lights before you can even squeese a rocket off.

Oh and LOLF, the laser rifle just does a lot of damage. You need to 'charge' it for exactly 3 seconds to do full damage, but even in melee range people could do a lot of damage with it. They nerfed melee damage.

The boltgun is a little nuts now, it's ALMOST like a mini rocket launcher, but it only doesn't explode when you hit someone with it, thank god.

Senior year of high school, college apps, AP Calculus eating my soul, AP Physics eating my physical body, and this semester I have TWO english classes that are analyzing what little remains.

Other than that, I'm still around. I watch the servers to see if anyone gets on, but I don't have that much time anymore. But yes, I am around and I do try to stay up to date.

Perhaps this will be for the best in the long run, what made NS so special for me was really the small tight-knit community, which couldn't possibly get any smaller at this point.

So, it shows he was well funded from CM contributions, AND he was in touch with the community. I personally won't say much until I see the latter is restored. Unless Flayra reconnects with his community and LISTENS to them, this will go nowhere.

I was just thinking this myself. They need something big. Whether that be a release with some radical addition, or NS:S, it needs something. And not a website that keeps track of stats or whatever that BUS carrot-on-a-stick was supposed to be.

There's maybe ten viable NS servers I can play on now, meaning they play ns_ and they actually have players. Sometimes during off-hours the number sinks below five.

Now it just seems NS is going to slowly die. NS:S seems a ways off if it's going to expand the gameplay, tbh even with permanent funding I wouldn't think its going to be a stellar sequel.

It's like most MMOs, carrot on a stick. Then you make friends in the game and, well, you're really stuck, hehe. I'd quit EQ2 but I think there are a couple people that might really upset.

Think I'm going to somehow force myself to limit time, though. Even playing other games and watching TV feels like a break from EQ2 now, which is sorta sad :p

I check the forums almost daily --- yes I'm that bored sometimes and compulsively (sp) check back here (and a few other places) a lot more than I should.

WHEN I get a chance to play NS it's on the OldF servers. Games there are equally as good as on LM with the exception of not recognizing as many people.

I'm an admin now over on the tacticalgamer servers. It really is a good community and the server is *packed* for hours every night and we have great games every night. Seriously, I had more in just a few nights than in weeks on other servers.

Teamwork is *required* on the server, you must be able to hear the voicecomms and actively participate with the team or you will be kicked. Not to scare you, but we filter out a lot of the guys that cause nothing but problems on other servers quickly. The whole motto is to have respect for the other players, teamwork, and maturity. When you combine all three of these we really have some great games and great regs. Really, the teamwork and communication part alone is worth a visit.

If any of you guys are interested, come on over and read this thread (and the links within) as it gives the general ethos of what we're about:

If you dont like it, that's okay too, I know we are a fairly unique server and arn't for everyone. Feel free to send me a PM either way though as I'd love to hear from ya guys.
